Guest guest
Over my life time I have had 3 , had one just abut a month ago. Its funny but I guess it may be the people giving it but I didn't have a problem with any of them. Two of them showed up things that nothing else found ron patterson ronpat0471@... > duncankathy21 wrote: > > Does anyone have any experience with a myelogram? >

I was excruciating at the time, partly because I had to be in positions that further aggravated the pinched nerve being looked at, and partly because the dye really increased all my pain. I had the spinal leak headache, too. Dealt with it a week before my hubby made me call the surgeon. Had to get a blood patch which was also very painful, but cured the headache by the next day. I will avoid another myelogram if I can, but if I get as bad off as I was before the last one and need surgery, I'd want them to have the best images they can get before operating. It sucks, but sometimes it's just necessary. Best wishes, in Oregon

I'm one of those people who has a > headache almost constantly, so getting some more headache on top of it > wasn't a surprise.:-) I have had three myelograms with a neuro radiologist. Be sure and ask if your doctor is specialized in doing only neurological work. My myelogram picked up problems that the mri didn't. They usually do a ct afterwards to make sure of everything. The myelogram will show nerve root openings, vertebrae spaces and placement of discs. I had one three weeks ago. The injections are now aqueous with iodine and you have to lie flat at least twenty four hours afterwards. You will get a spinal headache in which signifies a spinal leak from the puncture from the spinal needle they inject with. You have to take this part very seriously as they have to do a blood patch to cover the leak and then you will be okay. The consent forms explain the spinal headache, complications, and the reason for the myelogram and it is the only way for them to check my nerve root openings with the instrumentation I had. I have never had any problems as the same neuro radiologist did them for me. A neuro radiologist is different than the radiologist on staff as the nueor radiologist has more training and has more experience with this specific exam and others. It is good to ask and request a neuro radiologist if your hospital or radiology group has one. Bennie
Guest guest
Well most insurance groups have a list of ways things have to be done before the doctor can move onto other major things. And I'm sure a Myelogram is one of them. He has to do certain things before they would let him and pay him for doing a Myelogram, and it's just as sure he has to do a Myelogram and see what it shows before he can move onto other things Doctors are not allowed to just up and do any procedure they want to. It took over a year to get all the requirements it took for me to get my spinal stimulator. And a lot of them were very painful. ron pat
