How fast are you decreasing the amitriptyline? This is a medication that you need to go off of, very slowly. That's probably why you are having nausea. It would be wisest for you to contact your doctor about your feelings of nausea. If your depression returns, there are all kinds of medications that do not cause bladder problems. Glad to meet you. Guest guest
Hi Kaylene. Sorry but I didnt really understand your comment? I went on the drug for pain relief not depression. Although I have had possible reasons for depression it wasn't intensive until after I had been on the drug for a while which is why I am suspicious that the drug may have been responsible for the depression - it affects nerve paths in the brain as I understand. I was on 50mg and came off slowly over about 2 months - that was 6 weeks ago. The nausea is from the pain in my back - I had it before I ever took the drug - it's the reason I was prescribed it in the first place. Kaylene wrote: > How fast are you decreasing the amitriptyline? Guest guest
Hi , You are correct. People are given amitriptyline for pain just like some people are given cymbalta for pain. Doctors know that with pain comes depression, so sometimes they will give anti-depressants for pain and the depression they know will come with it. One of the side effects of these anti-depressants is depression. I know that sounds strange but if you read the inserts that come with these medications they will tell you this. I took amitriptyline several years ago for depression and I became more depressed while on it. Strange but true. When we switched to the cymbalta there was a world of difference in my depression. For the best I might add. Take care and Merry Christmas, Carol (OK)
