Guest guest
Joanne, I did not say anything the last time you almost bashed vegetarianism. I kept my mouth shut. Loma University has done a long study, along with other scientific organizations that people who eat a vegetarian diet actually live longer than meat eaters. it was not until meat was introduced into man's diet that we lost the lifespan that we had. We dropped from hundreds of years to less than 200 and it quickly got worse. Steve Wyttree has studied over 25 years the violence in society. In his book he talks about violence increases with the more animal products that are eaten in that society. We all have to make our own choices on our diets. To say how you can not understand how vegetarians can be healthy or get their nutrients just tells me there is not enough studying done. Modern doctors all push certain types of eating. It is not to promote health but disease. If we were to eat organic plant based diets, we would have less toxins in our bodies. The gov't does not want this. They want to be able to push pills from the drug companies into our bodies. Eating plant based diets have cured millions of disease. One can not argue with success. Another dr to research is Dr Budwig who also cures disease by diet. Again, plant based. Again, a german dr. She has a 90% cure rate on all types of cancers. More info in on the yahoogroup called Flaxseedoil2. Lots of email but lots of good information. I have people in my life who eat meat. I say nothing to them or knock them or anything. If I were to start eating meat again, I would eat only the meat I raised which I knew was clear of hormones or I would eat game meat. I would never eat meat bought from a store. That is just my choice. To end on a humorous note, as I am in mental health, there is a new disorder coined for people who try to eat healthy without preservatives, gluten, etc. It is called orthorexia nervosa. So on this list, almost everyone of us are mentally ill due to the new DSM which will be out 2013. maryruth On Tue, Nov 8, 2011 at 10:56 AM, Joanne Ford wrote: > ** > > > > > I do think that a lot of nonsense was thrown around in the past and I do > think the media set meat eaters and vegetarians against each other. Guest guest
I love this. Thanks for sharing. So now I can add to my list of illnesses Orthorexia Nervosa. If I tell my husband he will laugh and say, “But I already knew you were crazy.†For me though, I like being a little crazy. I remember telling someone once, “You have to be a little crazy just to keep your sanity.†I looked this up on Wikipedia and here is what it says, “Symptoms of orthorexia nervosa may include obsession with healthy eating, and emaciation among other things. Orthorexic subjects typically have specific feelings towards different types of food. The obsession for healthy foods could come from a number of sources such as family habits, society trends, economic problems, recent illness, or even just hearing something negative about a food type or group, which then leads them to ultimately eliminate the food or foods from their diet. According to the abstract of a 2004 study quoted on PubMed, a service of the National Institutes of Health, " The analysis of the physiological characteristics, the social-cultural and the psychological behaviour that characterises subjects suffering from ON shows a higher prevalence in men and in those with a lower level of education. " Seriously, everyone needs to just learn as much as they can about their own bodies and then make the choice that is right for them. Anything can be taken too seriously. I chose to eat the way I do because I tested my body’s reaction to different foods and found that some were making me feel worse and some were not. By keeping a food diary, I was able to see in print that on the day after I ate a doughnut that I would wake up stiff and have more pain. It would be the same if I ate pancakes or macaroni. I began to see a pattern. I did eventually go to my doctor and ask to be tested for allergies to foods. And it did come back that Gluten was High on the list. So was oats and yeast. I’m not fanatical about it though. At my granddaughter’s Birthday party last month they had cake and I had a couple of bites. No harm done and it made a little girl happy.
