They work for you, and if they don't give you the service you desire you simply have to take your business elsewhere and find another provider. And the reason doctors react so badly when you self-medicate is simple: It is very dangerous. Opiates can stop your breathing and kill you if you're tripling your dose without titrating safely up to that level. And if you're on a medication like Vicodin or Percoset that contains acetaminophen, you can easily overdose on Tylenol - it will kill your liver and then kill you. Don't self medicate. Just find a doctor who will treat your pain appropriately. And believe me when I say I understand that doing so may seem overwhelming - but it *is* possible. It took me no less than 10 different doctors to find a doctor who understood pain management and my particular conditions. It's a shame it takes so much work and that we have to sort through all the bad doctors to find the few good ones, but the good ones are out there, and the effort is worth the result. Guest guest
---Great reply. I am in a rural area and am stuck for the moment with a doctor who has a heart of gold, but has not been able to help me. Robin
