Guest guest
Just a note on this - I checked in the PDR about the bcp's that I was taking for many years before my ep. Increadsed risk of ep whith bcp failure was clearly noted, although it said nothing about after coming off of them. Since bcps are hormones, this suggests a hormonal mechanism as one of the possible causes of ep's. I think most Dr's are aware of this and that is why they caution their patients to wait a few months after stopping bcp's before conceiving. I also think that this there is a similar note for the shot (Depo Provera) and Norplant. I've seen abstracts in the literature that relate tubal function to hormone levels as well. I can look these up. Becca
Guest guest
Becca, thanks, this hormone level is precisely what I was talking about. The thing is, the hormones can take a while to leave your system, and depending on how much is still lurking, your tubal function is not the way it should be, and that is when ectopics happen.. I am not saying that this will ALWAYS happen.(I conceived our son a month after bcp's)but it really does depend on the strenght of pill you were taking and your body's natural ability to stabilize itself. I will do more reading and let you know what I find. sonja bcp/ep Just a note on this - I checked in the PDR about the bcp's that I was taking for many years before my ep.
