Gwen asked if an HSG would be necessary for someone with a normal period

following hysteroscopy. In my case, the only way my Asherman's was diagnosed

was because of an HSG. The HSG was performed to check my tubes following

methotrexate treatment for an ectopic pg. I was having normal periods and my

tubes turned out to be clear, but there were adhesions on the top of my uterus

that my RE graded as moderate. I did not have an HSG after surgery because I

became pregnant right after finishing the 2 months of estrogen. My daughter was

born in Jan 1998. I did not have another HSG until about a month ago. Again, I

was having " normal " periods. My RE seemed VERY surprised to see that the

adhesions had returned in the same place; my HSG pictures looked very similar to

those taken before surgery. I don't know if they " grew back " prior to my

pregnancy or occured after delivery. I do recall having a retained placenta. I

passed an avocado-sized piece of placenta at home about 3 d!

ays after delivery. When I call

ed the hospital, they tried to convince me it was just a " clot " . I work in a

pathology lab and can certainly tell the difference between a blood clot and

tissue! Anyway, one of the pathologists in the lab where I work lives nearby,

so she looked at it for me and confirmed it was placenta.

So... after this long-winded explanation, yes, it is possible to have normal

periods and still have Asherman's.
