Guest guest
hi I am a new member, originally from the USA but I live in Japan. I am wondering if anybody here with fibromyalgia has foot pain bad enough to keep you from walking and standing much and have you found anything that helped. I am doing an hour of passive stretching a day and have tried many kinds of custom orthotics (made here in Japan) but not having much luck. I started wearing prescription orthotics almost 25 years ago, before any fibromyalgia diagnosis. last spring i got pain in the arches of both feet. then i got plantar fasciitis. now i am not sure what is wrong but the arch pain won't go away. i have high arch rigid feet. i read that the ligament under the foot can permanently shorten with this kind of foot. i stretch and stretch but....one of my orthopedic docs says the foot pain is just another fibro symptom and i need to learn to live with it. but i think there may be something out there... i actually ended up having six different pairs of orthotics made in the past year! very expensive. most i cannot tolerate at all. two of them i switch off between. i used to wear hard orthotics but cannot endure those anymore. the two i am wearing--one is made of memory foam, the other plastic " gel. " anybody else have this problem? any success? i used to walk and even mountain hike for exercise. have not been able to do either for a year, i have trouble just doing everyday activities like shopping and working sometimes now. i sit down as much as possible now. i still do stretching of my feet, underside of feet etc. i made a stretching routine from a variety of books--Pain Free, Yoga for Arthritis, Fixing Your Feet, Injury Afoot... it seems to help only a little even tho i spend over an hour a day with these exercises. i am going through menopause naturally. i first got fibro symptoms when going thru an induced menopause (as an alleged cure for period pain). at that time my arms and neck were most affected after taking the drug that induced menopause. now old enough to be going thru that naturally i think it has created a pain flare that started 2 years ago and hasn't let up. I was having trouble with my back and neck. I started stretching and walking and that helped somewhat but--then a year ago the foot pain started. i am a vegan, slender, likes exercise and healthy food, taking supplements. have widespread joint pain but it is the foot pain that is really affecting my life at this point. i can ignore the other pain for now. jane in japan
