Guest guest
Hi Kim: I didn't really try to help people all that much other than be a normal friend. I had a few sponsees who I was scared of, but was too polite to say no to when they asked me to sponsor them. Also, several years ago, I had a few girls from the halfway house over for a sleep over party. (Yeah, I know, it sounds like I'm about 13 years old) As we were falling asleep they started telling stories of how they would befriend people then rip them off. Steal their TVs and microwaves and sell them for drug money. I remember being quite nervous, but too polite to do anything about it. That politeness was hard to get rid of. Shows me how damaging some early training in my family was. Apple In a message dated 4/2/99 11:20:12 AM, 12-step-freeegroups writes: <<Hi there. Kim here. On the subject of persons " playing both sides of the AA/ex-AA fence " , so to speak, I don't know. I could be wrong, but that's the impression I got. It sort of reminds me of people in AA who come in and out and in and out and do this sort of " I'm pathetic please help me " act and then when you try to help them they're all like " You sucker, how dare you try and change me " thing and get all nasty at you . Ouch. Yikes. Then when you clue in to their game and go " well, screw it, you're on your own then " , then they're all like " Oh no ! Wait !Wait! I really do want help and I really will make an effort this time " just enough to get you hooked into " helping " (eg- doing all their dirty work for them , being their sucker) again, and so on round and round and round and round, and of course they never really do change, at least not while they have you to do all the work for them, and you end up exhausted and depleted, at which point do they help you? NO! They move on to another victim and so on and so on. Been there, done that!(Aaargh!!!)(That's turning out to be one of my favorite new slogans!!!)>> ------------------------------------------------------------------------
