Guest guest
I apologize for not keeping you updated on my prayer requests and my health info. The MRI did not go well. It was not a good experience. I woke up in the middle and just about " freaked out " from the panic disorder.. messed up part of the MRI films, so the doctor will not have the complete picture on my shoulder.. however, due to the POOR CARE I received at the day surgery unit, the anesthesiologist did the best she could.. and then INSISTED that I call the hospital and explain what happened in the day surgery unit.. (basically put my husband and me in a small, hot room (I have SEVERE HEAT SENSITIVITY) and LEFT US THERE for 2 hours (not even telling us that the MRI has been postponed for 45 min.) NOR helping me to take the IV down and use the bathroom.. telling my husband after we put the call light on 2 times and they ignored it.. and he went to the nurse's station.. that HE COULD JUST TAKE THE IV down and take me to the bathroom.. and I just got more and more " uptight " , thinking (circular thinking that goes with the panic disorder) that they " forgot me " .. (we were at the end of the hall, and like I said NO NURSE or ANYONE came in the room for 2 HOURS).. By the time the anesthesiologist got to me, she had to give me MASSIVE amounts of Versed to calm me down which didn't work.. and then the propofol depressed my breathing and she had to be cautious about how much to give me and I woke up in the middle and moved around.. Anyway, the MRI report states: There is a partial articular surface tear along the most anterior aspect of the supraspinatus tendon just prior to the insertion into the tuberosity. In addition, there is thickening of the cortical humeral ligament which is associated with rotator interval lesion. The labrum appears grossly intact, however the axial images are severely degraded secondary to patient movement (I think this is due to me " waking up " and moving around.. yelling " get me out of here " ) No abnormal signal was seen within the visualized bone marrow. IMPRESSION: Small partial tear along the articular surface of the supraspinatus tendon anteriorly. I am in severe pain.. really need to take pain meds and sleep, but had to call the hospital and wait for phone calls today... Our HMO and the anesthesiologist INSISTED that I report the " mismanaged care of the day surgical unit " to the administration of the hospital.. because even though I am insulin dependent no one even checked my glucose for the 5 hours that I was there and that is definitely DANGEROUS.. both for the anesthesiologist and for me, the patient.. and for future patients. So.. I called and the " patient advocate " brought me 2 copies of my entire chart, as well as copies of the MRI's and the MRI report today. The MRI report had never even been faxed to my surgeon like they are required to do within 72 hours.. so the surgeon does not even have the results yet.. MAJOR SCREW-UP. I have an appointment for next Wed. afternoon with the surgeon, and will hand carry the MRI copies and report to him. The patient advocate is starting a " full scale " investigation, and will get back to me either Tues or Thurs.. (right now, I couldn't care less.. I didn't even want to call her to begin with.. but if I hadn't the jerks wouldn't even have informed my doctor of the results!!!!!) The patient advocate is an RN.. she advised TOTAL REST of the right arm and hand until I see the surgeon.. Also, the " trauma " of the experience has caused my fibro to flare worse than I can ever remember.. and the adrenal insufficiency is making my body just about stopping function.. I finally raised the prednisone last night and believe it or not, LOST 4 # of fluid overnight... I can't type anymore.. I have been reading the e-mail.. I appreciate your prayers.. and have been praying for you all. I am going to take the pain meds that the doctor prescribed and try to sleep more to let my body recover a bit during the weekend while my husband is home to make sure that I wake up for meds and glucose monitoring, etc.. BTW, Ed's job has NOT improved.. the stress HE is under is unbelievable as well.. Love you all God bless you, elaine
