Gwen,

It could be your area but I am in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area of

North Carolina and it is a fairly large area. I could certainly understand

Chicago being more expensive but almost double?? I hope it is a mistake for

your sake. Although at this point, I know I'd pay $17,000 if my chances were

good!! Good luck to you!

I think it depends on where you are....here in Chicago, the average falls somewhere between $15K and $20K for IVF.....it might be less expensive in other areas of the country....but here in the " big city " everything is more expensive, and I guess IVF is also!

Gwen,

Would it be worth pursuing IVF somewhere else in the country to save 5,000 to 7,000? I (and I am sure many others in this group) would be very willing to put you up for the time you need to be local. Then it would only cost you airfare and misc expenses. I know that my RE (and I am sure many others) is willing to share the ultrasounds, mock embryo transfer and estrogen testing with another out of state IVF doc. That way you have to be local only for a week or so. My RE does out of state IVFs all the time. He works with your local doctor to do the preliminary stuff (baseline ultrasound, meds, blood tests etc.). Then the ultrasound checks and estrogen testing up to egg harvest can be done by him and the embryo transfer 3 days later. His success rate for his clinic here in San Francisco is now 40-45% for IVF.

This is an option, you may want to remain local in your area because it is much much simpler. But, if money is an issue, by all means we are ready to help in any way we can. Food for thought. 17,000....ouch! I thought 11,000 for ICSI was expensive! Good luck in your decision.
