Guest guest
This sounds familiar... there were other s at school but most of them were boys. It still wasn't common. was going to be Annelies Jasmine, we both thought it was so pretty, but my SIL is Elise and we thought the two of them would end up being confused, being very close in age. So we argued over another fifty names. , neither of us LOVED, but it was the only name we both liked. Jasmine didn't sound right so she was going to be Eliza after my middle name... then Ebony, except the neighbour called her daughter Ebony when I was pregnant... another fight / compromise gave us . And suits her, because it's a no-nonsense strong name for a kid with a will of iron who is not at all sugar and spice and pink ribbons ) We picked out Aidan for our first, who turned out to be . So we were sick of that and changed it to Aidan, but then HE insisted that be named after him, so he is . has never known him as he skipped out when Josh was 9 months old. I even tried to get his middle name changed when I legally changed his surname to mine... but the judge said there was " no need to tamper with Christian names " and mind you Josh didn't even know what his middle name was! Ah well. is an incredibly easygoing kid. In the Bible, was a pretty strong guy who was a survivor. I went into labor at 33 weeks with , but he stayed put until his time was up, and was totally cool about everything since. I lost our third child to a miscarriage at six weeks. I had already chosen the names Brody Jordan and Chelsea Reagan. God knew what He was doing when He called bubby home though. A little sad, but I wasn't ready, Daddy had just left, and in the end we are all better off for it. I am really enjoying reading the stories behind the names. Thanks for sharing, everyone ) in Sydney, Australia Mum to , 6yo AS ADHD, and , 5yo mild hearing loss Re: Names > I should add that when I was going to school (HS) There were 5 's. Anyway that is why I wanted my children to have original names.>> Isn't it funny how your perspective affects things like this? All through school there was not one soul who had my name...most people couldn't even say it right--I went through the entire ninth grade with my ENGLISH teacher calling me " Roh-eee-nuh " . Jeekers. I hated that everyone else had " normal " names except me... Guest guest
OK Tuna, here are ours: Bethany was named for my sister and my mother. My sister 's middle name is Beth and my mom's name is Jean. Cameron did not really like this choice. I had to cry and promise to let him name the next one in order for him to agree to Bethany's name. So, then came Kepler . We did not know ahead of time that we were having a boy. Cam told me that he had picked out the name Kepler for a boy, but I was sure I was having another girl, so I didn't really mind. (He picked Abigail for a girl, which I liked.) Well, low and behold, I had a BOY! So, Kepler it was. It seemed perfect once we used it. Kepler is named for Johannes Kepler, a 16th century physicist/mathematician/astronomer. He was a contemporary of Galileo. Kepler's Laws are the laws of planetary motion (things that spin, lol). He also developed an interesting theory on how classical music is based on the movements of the planets. He did lots of other interesting things too, but those are the ones I remember off the top of my head. Kep's middle name is for Cam's dad. So, there it is. If we have another one, it will be my turn to name it. LOL. Elena for a girl or for a boy. Amy H--in Michigan Kepler 4 1/2 ASD and Bethany 6 NT " Harmony breeds ignorance. Guest guest
I have a ton of emails I need to respond to, but I could not resist answering this one before I left for work. Lee came about because is the only name my dh would agree to. Lee is from my little sister who died while I was preg with . Leigh was her middle name and we choose to honor her memory by naming after her. , we just liked , it is from the Bible and is dh's middle name. le was named by my mom. She was named in honor of my grandmother's grandmother. When my grandmother was small her mom died and her grandmom raised her. We were going to call her le and actually did for a short time. I don't remember when we started using her first name, she was probably a few months old. called her " little miss america " it was so cute, now he just calls her " brat " . Guest guest
Tuna - Jacqui - Kennedy Onassis. I chose the spelling because I thought it was unique. Her middle name () was chosen for my Aunt's daughter who died of SIDS. She was a couple of years younger than me. Dh wanted Cassidy (from Grateful Dead fame), but the deal was whatever the gender of the baby, the parent with the same gender could name the child. (If she were a boy, her name would have been Dean) Jeff - I just liked the name. LOL - No story there. Penny :-D
Guest guest
My son, Brandt ph, is adopted and my husband and I originally chose the name Brandt (unusual and it sounded German, which the Minden family is) (because he was due on St. 's Day.) Later, we really read the name description in the baby book and realized Brandt meant " firebrand " , which has proved to be more accurate than we perhaps would have liked!:-) Anyhow, he was born on March 20th, the first day of Spring(which was more appropo, we thought) so the " " went out the window. His birth mother went thru a rough 3 days after he was born, debating once again whether she could/should keep him. (Our three days were pretty rough, too, let me tell you...) At the end of 3 days she called us crying and asked us to go to the hospital to be with him as she would sign the papers in the morning. (He got pneumonia right after birth (aspirated fluids during birth) and was still in the hospital, even though she had been released.) Anyhow, we rushed to the hospital to be with him and she signed the papers the next AM. In honor of her, we chose the middle name ph which was the name she would have named him, if she kept him. He calls himself Brandt Joe. He has always known he was adopted. We talked about it to him when he was too little to understand, just to get used to talking about it. He has pictures of his birth mom, and for his third Christmas, I wrote and illustrated a book telling the story of his birth and adoption, with photos of us, our families and his birth mom and her family, too. We had a color laser copy made for his birth mom so she could see what we did with the photos. (Actually, I scanned them and saved the originals.) It is still one of his favorite books and he often shares it with others at school, etc. It is sort of like a social story that explains adoption, but, of course, when I wrote it, I had never heard of social stories or HFA. Go figure! Leggs

Guest guest
Mine was the opposite..although I use Mimi, my real name is Madaline..and there was only one other girl with that name in my entire school. My mom wanted to name me Lori or ..but my dad really wanted to name me after his mother..so my mom went along to please him and my grandmother. And, to make it more annoying..my mom spelled it with the *a* instead of the more usual way..Madeline. People could never remember my name..they called my Marilyn, nne, n, , even ..when my cousin started calling me Mimi for short..I made everyone call me Mimi..although my mom, brother and various relatives and old friends still call me Madaline. Now, of course, the name is really popular..probably because of the renewed popularity of the Madeline series. I would have rather been Lori..LOL!
