Guest guest
Hello All! As I am new to this group I will tell you a bit about myself, and hopefully you can help me with an issue. I am 41, white female. I have been diagnosed with MS for about 9 years. I was originally told that the numbness in my hand was carpo- tunne. The dr that was to operate did some funky test that zapped me here and there and he came to the conclusion that I did not have CT. After an MRI and a VERY painful spinal tap (the spinal tap was inconclusive) I was told I have MS. I was prescribed Avonex by my Neurologist. I have no issues with it except for the fact that I hate needles, so my partner administers it for me. January 26 2007 I had my first attack. It was the night of my 41st birthday. I recovered after being on prednizone for 4 days. That stuff is wonderful except for the weight gain. Then in July I had another attack which was brought on due to stress. I bought a new car and was freaking out about payments. I have now come to the conclusion that I deserve it, and I love my new car. The attack in July hit the right side of my body. I lost my gate, function on my hand and arm, and lost the ability to have a straight smile too. I have bounced back, but hate the thought of ever being like that again. The only problem I have from that attack is the left side of my torso, my arm and my leg are really sensitive. If I get bumped or run into something the pain is unbelievable. If I put lotion on my leg without first warmning it up in my hand it is horrible. When trying to get into a pool, the pain is also terrible, or even trying to get into a warm bath. I find that in the pool it is better to just jump right in..:-) I am wondering if anyone knows about this? I have stopped going to a neurologist as I was displeased with his way of treating me. He really had no bedside manner at all. When I was sick in January I left 5 phone messages and 4 months later they were never returned. So I really feel that he does not deserve to treat me. I now go to a wonderful doctor that found me in ER in January. He specializes in MS. He will treat the patient and not the disease. He is very caring and knows about it and takes time to speak with me and explain things about issues I have. If anyone can help with the sensitivity issues, I would sure appreciate it.
