A child’s IEP should include scientifically based instructional practices. Children enrolled in special education programs should be instructed by highly qualified teachers. A child’s IEP goals should be meeting his or her unique needs addressing academic, developmental, and functional needs. Florida is part of a pilot program which only requires IEP revisions every 3 years. Parents are active participants in their child’s IEP meetings and have the right to refuse suggested services.
