Guest guest
Unfortunately many licensing agencies, in my state at least, have bought into the idea that 12-step programs are the only solution for the people that they license, if they are found to be " impaired. If you've read my posts you know that I was suspended from my job for 7 months by the same company that presented me with 3 safety and attendance awards because their Employee Assistance Program manager decided I was " alcoholic " and in need of 12-step " treatment. " I suffered greatly as did my 10-year-old son, who was frightened by the false allegations and worried that we would start to go hungry. > But how does disrupting XA meetings do anything to make things better? > Please consider taking actions that are more likely to help end the coercion. > If you are an American citizen, please acquaint yourself with, and find a civil rights attorney who is familiar with, the 1996 vs. Coughlin decision. In this landmark case, XA was declared to be " unequivocally religious " and hence any state mandate to attend any 12-step program is UNCONSTITUTIONAL (a violation of the Establishment Clause). SUE the entity or entities who ordered you to receive 12-step religious instruction! The tool is there, use it! > If you were indoctrinated into 12-step/disease concept by any licensed professional and you were told there were no alternatives or that disagreement with these beliefs is a sign of pathology, COMPLAIN TO THE PROFESSIONAL LICENSING BOARD. Imposing a personal belief system on a client is considered incompetent and unethical in the counseling profession. > Think about it. These kinds of action can turn XA back into the silly, harmless religion it used to be, instead of coerced " medical treatment " ordered by non-medical persons with power. >~Railroad Rita > > > > > >----- >See the original message at /list/12-step-free/?start=1075 >------------------------------------------------------------------------ >Don't lose your email when you move, change jobs, or switch ISP's. >Click here to get free and permanent email from NET@DDRESS! >http://ads./click/153/0 > >
