Guest guest
Hello All- Allow me to introduce myself and my family. My name is Lori and I have three children, 2 boys and a little girl, ages 16, 11, and 3.5 respectively. My Daughter anne is HOH. She has a profound hearing loss in her right ear as a result of meningitis in October of '99. The audiologist tells me that amplification is not necessary nor will it benefir her. She is verbal but her articulation is not always good. (She also has other problems, PVL and CVID, so she is a little slower than most kids her age). Anyway, the point of this letter is to get opinions from you people who have been through this. I want to know what (if anything) I should be doing for her. Should I get her an FM auditory trainer for at home use? THe school will provide one for her use there. What do I do when she is outside and cannot hear me? Do I need special smoke alarms or phones that blink the lights or am I way too crazy and I should just calm down and let her be?!!! She is my child and I want to do all I can to help her, only I am not sure what I should be doing. I also know that it could be way worse and she could have lost her hearing totally. Believe me, I thank God everyday that she only lost hearing in one ear. Any information you pass on would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance and have a great day. Guest guest
Hi Lori: I'm a HOH mother of two children, one HOH, the other hearing. I've worn hearing aids since the age of 3 and am completely oral. Over the years, my hearing declined and I am now profound in both ears. As things came along, my parents added things around the house to make things easier. I highly recommend the use of light signals around the house for the doorbell, the telephone, the burglar alarm and the fire alarm. While I could hear all these things when my aids were in, there were plenty of times that I needed the flashing lights. For instance, if I was watching tv or on the telephone, I didn't always notice if the doorbell was ringing. You can buy things through any assistive device catalog or website. My parents just had strobes put in. In my own house now, we had our alarm company hardwire our system and he made a little light panel that has 4 different tiny bulbs that light up depending on what is ringing. There are vibrating pagers that you can get through the catalogs that may be good for when your daughter is outside and can't hear you. I think they work within 1 or 2 miles. I'm sure I'll be getting one for my daughter soon. How is your daughter's hearing in the other ear? I hope these suggestions are helpful. One company that has an extensive website and catalog is Communications, www.harriscomm.com. You may want to browse around and see if they have devices that will be helpful. Good luck, a
Guest guest
Welcome to the list Xuan, I only use a cheeper scale that I bought years ago and I think it works good. It may not be as exact as the digital ones but I will use it till I need to buy a different one. There are tons of personal sites that you can check out on the net for inspiration as far as WW goes. Not just the WW board. I have a list of sites that I took off of one board one time that I could send you if you would like it. Theresa Hello All, I just joined the group and hope to find some support and inspiration. Currently, I am a new WW Online member and also cull the website's message boards for good tips on weight loss. I was also hoping if anybody has any recommendations for digital food scales. I find that weighing food gives me a more accurate picture of how much I am actually consuming. Any advice would be appreciated! Anyway, just wanted to say hello and introduce myself.
