Guest guest
just my two cents on Neurontin........I think different meds work differently on different people. I had to get off some old muscle relaxers and sleep meds, and my psychiatrist wanted me to take Neurontin to help me to do that, and NOT have seizures..so as I'm tapering off the old stuff and taking the Neurontin, I'm finding that some of the nerve pain and other things are also getting better. He did tell me that some people can't tolerate it well, but he would use it as a 'first choice' because it has few interactions with other drugs and has few side effects if any (so they say..we'll see what the long term studies may be...natually skeptical about things that sound too good to be true) and I have been taking it for a couple of months and I must say, it has helped the RINGING in my ears as well. It was pretty odd to get used to as far as balance. Looking a little tipsy there, Doris! It doesn't make me sleepy, but few things do even when they are supposed to! I'm up to 300 mg three times a day, and 600mg at bedtime with some Robaxin and some pain med..it's seems to be holding there at that level. Neurontin may not be for everyone, but it has pulled me out of a year and a half long black hole, and I'm going " Wow " !!!! Blessings, Doris _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
Guest guest
I take this only when I have a bad enough flare up of pinched nerve problems. I typically will get a nerve pinched in my neck or shoulder and then an arm or both will go to that dull ache pins & needles. When this happens I can not get to sleep so I take some Neurontin and it always works. Hugs, HEDS, New Jersey, USA
Guest guest
Janet, When I first went on neurontin, the doc had me taking 300mg capsules 3 x day. I couldn't sleep at night and was sedated during the day, so I went off of it. a few months later I tried 1 capsule at night and tolerated it well. Even that small amount helped with the pain. I have a lot of neuropathy, apparently. Neurontin is a med that wears many hats, so to speak, and yes it works as an anti-seizure med. It also helps with anxiety and somewhat with depression. -Nanette > Isn't this primarily used for seizures? My doc prescribed it to me after I'd > gone into shock a few times from the pain. Guest guest
I too have been put on Neurontin and am taking two capsules three times a day. This is the second increase I've had in six months. It has stopped alot of the nerve pain I suffered at night especially! The neuro specialist wants me to slowly increase this as he hopes to get a handle on all the nerve pain. He is also sending me onto another specialist, Neurosurgeon to see if fusion is an option. He has already told me that this will likely be a second opinion and that it will not result in any treatment variation. With regards to the neurontin, the only side affect I notice is that at times I have problems with my vision. The muscles surrounding the eye really. It makes them water and squeeze tight, it's just easier to try not to focus on anything and rest. Those days I am stuck at home due to not being able to drive and we live 25 min from the nearest town. And typing is out...or alot of e mail gets sent without review or spell check.
