Breeden, 28, was airlifted to Hendrick Medical Center, where he was treated for a skull fracture. He was in stable condition in the hospital's intensive care unit Saturday night, a spokeswoman said. Breeden was able to radio for help and was brought down from the tower on a ladder Friday evening, state prison officials told KTXS in Abilene. Authorities said the shooting appears to be an accident. Breeden apparently shot himself just before a shift change when the guards routinely empty ammunition from their weapons.
