Guest guest
I'm with you on that one, KJ! I don't care for it either. I have a Dandelion Root Tincture that I use sometimes. It can just be added to juice or tea and the taste isn't noticeable. I've also tried ginger tea and couldn't stand the taste of that one either! rachel~ In a message dated 3/15/02 7:25:26 PM Eastern Standard Time, hazelpone@... writes: > I bought some dandelion tea and it tastes horrible! Guest guest
I stand corrected. I checked the bottle and it is actually Dandelion Root AND Leaf tincture. rachel~ robinbirdjones@... writes: > Pardon me but why are you using the root? > We use the leaf.. tinctured with brandy to extract the herb and our use if > used for in our setting, to act as a urinary tract infection or overall as > a > diretic.. Guest guest
KJ, Dandelion is very medicinal so it's not a tea you would take to sit and sip and enjoy....lol......it is very bitter and it will help with what you are self-treating but beyond that it is not a tea you would want to sip regularly. Swamp tea! lol Peace Lu ----- Original Message ----- From: hazelpone gallstones Sent: Friday, March 15, 2002 6:24 PM Subject: dandelion tea taste terrible! Guest guest
, Oh, you don't like ginger tea? teehehehe....I really like ginger tea....I just grate a bit of fresh ginger in my water and drink....now if you really want to drink it for some specific medicinal purpose you could try adding honey to it or some stevia leaf. Otherwise, no it's not one to just take to enjoy sipping if you don't like it...lol. I enjoy it so for sipping enjoyment it is one I would use. ;-) Peace Lu ----- Original Message ----- From: Rachd1961@... gallstones ; bowel cleanse Sent: Friday, March 15, 2002 6:35 PM Subject: Re: dandelion tea taste terrible! When I was growing up, my parents used to say I had imature taste buds! But now I am 31 and mature, so this is not that. I will try some almond milk and/or rice milk in my tea-but I think I will need more than that because this stuff is HORRIBLE! I even drink echinacea and P'au Darco (sp?) without sweetners, but this is exceptionally bad. I will let all know if I find anything that helps. Guest guest
another thought is that we have 4 basic tastes. sweet, sour, salty, bitter. We tend to go for the sweet and salty but leave out the sour and bitter. Bitter activates your digestive system in ways that other tastes don't. Could part of our healing include these tastes. When is the last time you ate bitter greens? Why do we always sweeten things that don't appeal to our tastes? 100 years ago it was unlikely that sugar or honey was a major part of our life. another thought is-- what is honey doing to your insulin levels. Quick sugar provokes high insulin levels. Elaine > > Try giving a cup of black coffee to a kid. Bet he'd say it tastes terrible! Guest guest
I meant no criticism, I just wanted to provoke thought. I have a major sweet tooth. I just think that sometimes not adding sweetener to things might aid in healing. I am just assuming that you are making dandelion tea for healing reasons. If you cover up the tastes with honey (not my choice) or maple syrup (my choice) do you get the full benefits of the food/herb/remedy? I ask this question from a healing point of view not just daily living. At the same time I ask this question, I'm trying to find a way to make some tinctures taste a bit better!!! Not a hypocrite, just seeking information. If you want to taste a really nasty tea (my opinion ofcourse), try yarrow. Schulze says that you know you are drinking enough yarrow tea when you lean over and it comes out your ear. I guess sweetening yarrow would be better than not drinking it at all, or maybe I just need to " aquire " a taste for it. Guest guest
Hi Elaine, I know you meant no criticism, I didn't take any. I do believe that God gives us different tastes/likes just like we come in different shapes and sizes and colors. I also have a major sweet tooth. As far as not adding sweetner, well, things should be palpable. Either I need to take another herb, or find a way to deal with the one I got. Honey, molases, maple syrup, there is nothing wrong with this. I plan to make dandelion tea a part of my regular daily habits, so it must taste good. I don't see why I wouldn't get the full benefit when using sweetner. Only if I cannot digest the sweetner or it is somehow adulterated would it affect the herb. In my humble opinion! I am using the dandelion tea for my liver. By the way, I got many responses. Someone even told me to simmer the tea until it is 1/2 of the amount of liquid I started with. So I will try each suggestion (easiest first) and keep going until I get the one that is good for me, I paid $8 for that bag of loose tea! God bless, KJ Subject: Re: Dandelion tea taste terrible! Guest guest
If a herb tea tastes nasty, and most do, don't drink it. Put it in capsules and take it. I take this herb once a day in capsules. Liz D
Guest guest
I've read that certain tastes in the mouth start certain actions in the digestive system. Hince--if you sweeten a taste such as dandeliion, does the liver (part of digestion) respond the same way? Simmering it down will make it stonger. What if you made it weaker and just drank more of it? Good luck Elaine

Guest guest
Hi Donna, " You can just cap it up and take the caps and be done with it. People do it all the time. " I know people cap herbs. I have mentioned it myself here many times. The point is I don't want to spend any more money on this. That is why I am trying the free options like weaker tea first. Guest guest
Hi KJ Well, another thing I have done is just put a small spoonful in my mouth and wash it down with water. If there is a bitter taste it is brief and when I am feeling to lazy to cap something up, that is what I do. Smile.
