Guest guest
I called the Melisa.org company today and was rather intrigued by what they told me. Apparently their testing examines what is in the body that the immune system is having a problem with. This could include metals, but can also include lyme, mold, candida, and other various toxins and allergens. Although it is a blood test, it is not a typical blood test like the ones done here in the U.S. It is incubated for 6 days --and analyzed a certain way. She explained some stuff about antibodies, lymphocytes, etc--and sort of lost me in the terminology and process of how it is done. I am not good with medical stuff, so can't explain it like the person from the company did.... But again, the bottom line of my understanding is that the test will pinpoint what is in the body that the immune system is reacting adversely to. And if this is actually the case, then I think this is what many of us battling this disease are trying to figure out--so that we know what go after in our cure. Apparently, this test is used more in Europe and has not come widely to the U.S. It is expensive, depending on the panel and how many things are examined (how many metals, and whether the person wants mold, lyme, candida, etc also included). I know my insurance won't pay for it as I am limited only to Quest Labs. But I was intrigued and will think more about it. Has anyone here actually done this testing or have any other opinions? Guest guest
The price is expensive but also depends on how many things you choose to test for. They can test if a person is having an autoimmune reaction to a total of 35 different metals. Most people don't test for that many but if someone wanted them all tested that is $1,000 (U.S. dollars). Then there are other panels for the tests that are not heavy metals, but look for autoimmunity to such things bbbbbbbas candida, lyme, mold, and other allergens. She said something about $450 for another panel, but I'm not sure if that includes all the other things. She is supposed to be emailing me a price list so I will post if/when I get it. On the website, under the contact us section, they have the different countries listed and where you can call to get more info depending on the country. Guest guest
I've had the MELISA test.  The 2 metals most commonly involved in MS are mercury and nickel.  those are the main ones to test for.  I know Vera Stejskal personally so she might have done it for me for free. We've had lots of interactions. At a minimum it didn't cost me much. I was immune reactive to mercury and nickel and berylium. there are 4 types of mercury that might have relevance depending on your exposures inorganic from amalgam methyl mercury from fish or amalgam ethyl mercury from vaccines (thimerosal) phenyl mercury from root canaled teeth palladium if you have metal crowns with palladium - very immune reactive also some other metals with common exposures are lead and arsenic and chromium and cadmium I was also highly immune reactive to berylium, which i had exposure to through dental materials. I was disabled before getting rid of my metals, but am virtually fully recovered now. mine was caught early by tests since i'm a mercury researcher and reacted quick when tests showed I was mercury toxic, but i got to the stage of having to limit my driving severly and having trouble going up steps, numbness and pain in feet and lower legs, being told by my opthamologist that I was going blind, etc.  All better. Guest guest
Thanks Bernie, You are incredibly knowledgable in this area and I and I'm sure others appreciate your sharing. I had a couple follow up questions from your post below: 1) Re the different types of mercury you mentioned, do they need to be chelated with different chelators? For example, I was planning to try DMSA. Would DMSA chelate all four form of mercury you mentioned? 2) Do you know what are some common sources of arsencic? My hair analysis showed high levels of arsenic, but I don't know where that exposure might be coming from. Thanks again, > > there are 4 types of mercury that might have relevance depending on your exposures > > inorganic from amalgam > > methyl mercury from fish or amalgam > > ethyl mercury from vaccines (thimerosal) > > phenyl mercury from root canaled teeth > > palladium if you have metal crowns with palladium - very immune reactive also > > some other metals with common exposures are > > lead and arsenic and chromium and cadmium
Guest guest
Bernie, Where and how did you get these tests done? Was it blood, stool, urine, hair or a combination of all? How did you become free of all symptoms? Are you saying that you never or do not have MS, it was all toxins? Very interested! Thanks, Roe --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Guest guest
I got my test done by sending a blood sample to the Stockholm lab by Luftwansa, but I think the test is available in the U.S also. Guest guest
I spoke with the Melisa reps. The blood is still analyzed in Germany. For those of us in the U.S. interested, we need to have our blood drawn here and sent there for the analysis, which entails 6 days of incubation at their labs and study of the lymphocytes and auto-immune reaction of the blood sample. More info avail through melisa.org > > I got my test done by sending a blood sample to the Stockholm lab by Luftwansa, but I think the test is available in the U.S also. > >
