Hi Kristi,

I'm not Li, but... I did take Lupron (4 injections worth) prior to

my myomectomy on 10/4. The smaller fibroids shrunk to a more

manageable size (they were about 13 cm to start with and shrunk to

7.1 x 6.5 cm and 10.8 x 11 cm). My big one, 18 cm was not affected

by the Lupron at all. The doctor said that sometimes they get too

big for the Lupron to have any real significant impact. He had no

trouble removing all of the fibroids and is confident that he removed

all of it. My fibroids were all subserosal.

I went in today because I've been running a low grade fever non-

stop. It hasn't gone over 100 since Saturday but today was up to

99.9. The doctor did some tests but said that my incision is healing

fine and all looks normal. He said that it doesn't surprise him that

I'm running a low grade fever due to the size of my fibroids. What

also surprised me was that he said I can start trying to get pregnant

in 6 more weeks -- that is about 8 weeks. He also said I can start

having sex again in 2 more weeks, but I told him that I would tell my

husband that he said 4 more weeks (I was just joking around, but I

don't really want to think about sex just yet)!

If you want a baby, I definitely would go with a myomectomy and not

UAE. UAE does not have any studies on succesful pregnancy rates as

far as I know. I have done a lot of research and was very confident

with the myomectomy decision.

Best of luck!

I also want a baby in the future and that is why I chose myo. I

believe myo is safter and more predicatible than UAE. I also do not

feel like to leave anything in my body. Of cause myo is more

invasive, but there is really no prefect soltion for the treatment of

fibroid. You just have to make the best decision according to your

situation.

I did not use lupron because I did not think it gave any added

advantage using it!

So your Dr. did not say that he HAD to shrink the

fibroid w/ Lupron? My Dr. said the surgery will go

better if they shrink it. There will be less bleeding

and less complications. I guess also less damage to

my uterus. It does make sense but I don't want to

take Lupron either. I need to find out from her

tonight if I have anymore smaller fibroids. I had an

ultrasound and MRI so I am thinking they should be

able to tell me this information.

Yes, he did! I was actually astonished and he explained how very

tiny the sac is at the beginning of a pregnancy in relation to the

size of the uterus. He's a fertility specialist / reproductive

endocrinologist so I'm sure he knows what he's talking about. Still,

I'll feel more comfortable letting my body heal for 6 months or so.

Plus I need to mentally prepare myself to go back in and basically

have another myomectomy again (c-section).

I guess the fever is common. I was just a little worried since I've

had one non-stop for almost two weeks now (two weeks tomorrow). I am

feeling a lot more mobile now.

If you ever visit Dr. Berger's INCIID web site, he also tells

his patients 8 weeks. Maybe it just depends on the surgeon and their

suturing techniques.

Hi Kristi,

His main reason for me taking the Lupron was to reduce blood loss

during surgery. I have pictures of my fibroids and two appear to be

white because the Lupron did their job on them and cut off their

blood supply. The big one is red because the Lupron could not do

it's magic on it due to its size. I did bank two units of my blood

and I did need them both transfused back in me due to the big one (18

cm). The doctor said that one caused a tremendous amount of blood

loss. He also said that my previous OBGYN never should have let them

get so big and never should have prescribed bc pills for me. Anyway,

I'm glad that the Lupron worked on two of the three fibroids,

otherwise I would have required additional blood from the general

population and I only wanted my blood back.

I had some side effects from the injections, but nothing

intolerable. I had one night the first month where I woke up

drenched in sweat. I had about 6 hot flashes, 12 hot flushes, some

headaches (usually two weeks after the injection I noticed my

symptoms to increase). The worst side effect was insomnia for me.

I am in CA but I'm sure you'll find some great surgeons out in your

area. I would start out looking for reproductive endocrinologists

and go from there. Check out this list I found in Pennsylvania for

you. You should check them out even if it says their specialty is

IVF or other assisted reproductive technologies because that's what

my doctor's bio says and does not mention he is a highly skilled

myomectomy surgeon.

http://www.inciid.org/pennsylvania.html

I'm sure you will find a skilled surgeon and this will be behind you

soon. Someone on this board said that the worrying is the worst part

of the entire ordeal and that is so true. When you find the surgeon

for you, just be confident with your decision and trust that they

will do the right thing.

Best of luck! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Unfortunately, sometime the doctors will not be able to know if you

have tiny ones. I had MRI too. But the two tiny ones: 1 and 0.5 cms

were not showing up in the MRI for some reasons.

BTW, I do not have much bleeding during the surgery or any

complications. I really think the side effects caused by lupron is

weighed more than what it actually worths. A lot of times it will

not shrink your fibroid that much any way. For a surgery like this

size of fibroid is not going to make that much difference.

Hi Kristi

I took the 3 month Lupron shot on Aug 27th I had my 1st side effect

experience about 3 weeks later I started experiencing hot flashes. They

weren't that bad. Just happy to have my period stop
