Guest guest
Hi Anne, I had 2 polyps removed by hysteroscopic resection. What a huge difference!! The heavy bleeding and clotting I had been experiencing cleared up about a month after the procedure and now 2 years later I am still having fairly normal periods. Because I have fibroids, the gyns would just say oh its the fibroids. It wasn't until a hysteroscopic exam they were found and removed that the problems they caused went away. i highly reccommend a hysterscopic resection for polyps. It can usually be done in the doctors office unless their location is difficult in which case the gyn may want you to do outpatient. Its still a fairly quick procedure either way. I had heavy bleeding for 2 weeks afterwards, got my period which was also heavy for a week and then everything returned to normal. Hope this helps. best wishes, PS There have been alot of psots on polyps. Check the archive. I seem to remeber someone having some pain during the procedure and what someone reccommended to prevent it. > I have just been diagnosed with an endometrial polyp via a vaginal > ultrasound. Guest guest
Hi Elena, I am so sorry I asnwer late, didnt get on line for a while. No, i didnt have my polyp removed and my bleeding for 2 days was very bad. But I also have fibroids, so cant tell from what is the bleeding. I am 48, and my last period , so far has been mild but very long. My uterus appears to shirink, so perhaps it wasnt the polyp which caused the bleeding. Do you have also fibroids? I just dont like to jump to any procedure, unless absolutely necessary. good luck Please keep me posted, I still have my polyp. Guest guest
Hi Elena, My first gyn, rushed me to have the polyp removed right away,I right away didnt like her attitude. I went thru 5 gyn, later on, none spoke about it, only about my fibroids. My last gyn, whom I like a lot, didnt mention it either. How old are you, Elena? I think if it doesnt bother you, why have any procedure? I still have the polyp, and my uterus shrunk, and my last period has been very light, but very long. Best of luck, Annie, NY
Guest guest
Elena, If your doctor is not sure, an MRI can show a lot more than an ultrasound, ask for it.They couldnt see my ovaries, and wanted me to have a hys, suspected cancer. I asked for an MRI, and lo and behold, the ovaries looked nice there! then they said I had suspicion of cancer of the fibroids! Guest guest
Hi, Annie I also have multiple fibroids. The doctor who did the ultasound did not count how many, which I am annoyd about. Apparently, my largest is about 2.5cm gong down to 1cm. I am not sure if I have a polyp or not . The doctor was unsure. He suggested a hysteroscopy and a D & C. I am having another ultrasound on Monday from another doctor . From my research, they recommend that all polyps should be removed. What was the advice that was given to you about your polyp. Please let us know, Warmest wishes, Elena >From: Femsingerny@... >Reply-To: uterinefibroids >To: uterinefibroids >Subject: Re: endometrial polyps >Date: Wed, 7 Nov 2001 17:02:31 EST > >Hi Elena, >I am so sorry I asnwer late, didnt get on line for a while. >No, i didnt have my polyp removed and my bleeding for 2 days was very bad. >But I also have fibroids, so cant tell from what is the bleeding. Guest guest
So you are a person like me whose gene just immediately said to me " I think you have leomyosarcoma your uterus is so enlarged I bet your former gene never told you you had an enlarged uterus-sorry to put the fear of God in you but this is what I think you have. I came to see him just to get a 2nd opinion about my fibroid and he didnt even discuss it except to say he thought it was cancer. Needless to say I left his office in a state of shock - I did find my old medical records from 1996 and My uterus was the same size then as now. i told him how bad he made me feel and he says he isnt sory for the way he treated me. I am going to see a gene oncologist this week just to see what he has to say and hopefully he will recommend a better gene for me to see. Why did your gene think you had fibroid cancer I asked him how Re: endometrial polyps > Elena, > If your doctor is not sure, an MRI can show a lot more than an ultrasound, > ask for it.They couldnt see my ovaries, and wanted me to have a hys, > suspected cancer. > I asked for an MRI, and lo and behold, the ovaries looked nice there! then > they said I had suspicion of cancer of the fibroids! > You MUST be strong with these people, > Annie, NY > > >
Guest guest
Hi Annie, One month ago, my gyno referrred me for an ultrasound, as I had had one episode of spotting in between my periods. My gyno referred me to himself . He also does ultrasounds in a different location. He found I had multiple fibroids , the largest 2.8cm and the smallest 1cm. He said I had endometrial thickening and a polyp. He recommended a hysteroscopy and a D & C. I went to speak to my local doctor about this and she informed me that from her reading of his report to her, my gyno was not sure I had a polyp. My local doctor was not sure about the endometrail thickening but told me that it was measured at 10mm on day 9 of my cycle. She asked if i wanted to have a second ultrasound before I went ahead with a D & C.. to which I agreed. I had the second ultrasound done today by a different gynocologist/ultrasonographer who informed me I did not have a polyp. Also, my endometrium was 7mm on day 7 of my cycle which was normal. I told him it had been 10mm on day 9 of my cycle and he said that was OK as well. Apparently, for a post menopause woman an endometrial thickening of greater than 5mm is suspicious, but not for a premenopause woman, as their lining is thicker. I am 42 years of age and still menstruating normally. I was surprised that the original gynocologist had suggested my endometrium was double what it should be and that I needed to have a D & C and poly removal. I can only say that it is worth having a second and third opinion before decisions are finally made. Best wishes to all, Elena >From: Femsingerny@... >Reply-To: uterinefibroids >To: uterinefibroids >Subject: Re: endometrial polyps >Date: Fri, 9 Nov 2001 22:38:35 EST > >Hi Elena, >My first gyn, rushed me to have the polyp removed right away,I right away >didnt like her attitude. Guest guest
Hi Elena, Sorry I only answer you now, just spotted your e mail. My gyn. took CA-125 and it was 183 the second one went up and was 269. He said this was a red flag, and I was on the fire line! not to have a uae, nothing only a hys! I was scared to death! I prayed to God, and wrote to the uae web site. Dr. Hirsch on that site saved me, said to get a second opinion. ( And this last doctor was a gyn/onc!) I went to a cancer center, the doctor said he was not alarmed, he took another test, and it went down to 209. He said no need of a procedure. If you feel in your gut the doctor is off track, go to another! Good luck, and let me know. Annie, NY
Guest guest
Hi, Annie thaks for replying My original doctor was off track. I ended up having a seconf vaginal ultrasound. I was told that I had 5 fibroids, the largest being 2.8cm. My original doctor said he was concerned as my endometrial lining had a thickness of 10mm on day 9 of my cycle. He also said that I may have a Polyp. The second ultrasound showed an endometrial thickness of 7mm on day 7 of my cycle. I was told that both these thicknesses were appropriate for a menstruating woman. There was no evidence of any polyps. However, a saline infusion was not done. With only one episode of spotting in between periods, the second doctor advised me to wait and see if and how my symptoms developed. I have not had any further spotting and my periods last 5 days, of which 2 days are on the heavy side. It is so important to have a number of opinions, before a decison is made. Many thanks, Elena >From: Femsingerny@... >Reply-To: uterinefibroids >To: uterinefibroids >Subject: Re: endometrial polyps >Date: Mon, 19 Nov 2001 21:40:10 EST > >Hi Elena, >Sorry I only answer you now, just spotted your e mail. Guest guest
Hi Elena, Thanks for sharing your experience, that stengthened me too. Yes, the big rule is to always have a second opinion, and no matter how scared you are. Also, not to go to doctors referred by your original doctor. All the best, Annie, NY
