Guest guest
Patient won't eat. Doctor dictates a plan for PIC tube placement. Is that correct? I thought it was a PIC line. Anyway, if anyone can help, I would appreciate it. Thanks, Pattie
Guest guest
Pattie, That would be PEG tube (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy) tube, placed to give the patient nutrition directly into the stomach when the patient is unwilling or unable to take anything orally. I don't think we've been given enough info to go on here ... it could be PEG tube, as Margaret suggested, but you will also often hear of PIC (peripherally inserted catheter) tubes or PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter) tubes, so it depends upon the context in which you're hearing this phrase. All 3 are quite common, though PEG tube may be most common ... quite different animals, however.
