This " article " has been circulating since 1995. While Betty i is a

well known anti-aspartame advocate, no one (not in the medical community,

nor elsewhere that I can find) knows who Markle is or if she exists.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the National Cancer Institute, the

American Dietetic Association, and the American Diabetes Association have

all stated that the use of aspartame is safe. Because it's been sent to me

so many times, I have researched this info extensively, and discussed it

with my BIL who is a chemist. He confirmed the following:

Aspartame is made up of two amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks

of protein. One of the end products of aspartame breakdown is methanol, and

it is identical to the methanol we eat in much larger amounts in fruits,

vegetables, and their juices. The amount of methanol you'd get from drinking

a 12-ounce can of soda sweetened with aspartame is less than what you'd get

from an 8-ounce glass of grape juice.

That's just the basics. I don't think aspartame is necessarily healthful,

but I certainly wouldn't take this " Markle " information to heart. If

you need reassurance, go to a reputable source like www.mayohealth.org.

Betty i is an alarmist and not a credible source of anything. She's

been ranting about aspartame with little to no proof behind her. You will

notice in the article there are no study sites, just " me " and " I " . She's

pretty infamous as full of guff.

I'm not saying aspartame is good or bad, just that the article is her

opinion and should be researched before being believed to any degree.

Hi,

Thought some may find the attached article interesting. Hope this works.

There is also a book that is coming out soon, if its not already out, called

" The MS Solution " by Simpson, a woman who reversed her MS by balancing

her hormones through bioidentical hormones. Its interesting to me because I just

found out recently I'm low in estrogen, hardly producing progesterone, and am

hypothyroid (I'm only 31). A specialist told me that the body needs progesterone

for nerve repair, myelin repair, and muscle mass.

I think for some people, myself being one of them, hormones is the

underlying cause (or at least one of the main underlying causes) of

MS. In addition to Simpsom (who has another book out about

hormones that I have read), I have spoken to another woman who has

been in a full remission since being on bio-identical hormones. I

have also talked to the doctor who has worked with Simpson on

her hormone therapy, and he told me he has three other female

patients with MS who have had good success with the bio-identical

hormones. Most of these women are on four different hormones--armor

thyroid, estrogen, progesterone, and cortisef (all bio-identical

forms).

Personally, I measure low in progesterone, thyroid, and DHEA. I am

not taking anything except the bioidentical progesterone cream at

this time. As I have noted before, there are also quite a few of us

women here (including me) who have MS and a uterine fibroid--which

also suggests a link to me with hormones and illness.

I have not gone the full route of seeing a doc to get on a bunch of

bio-idenical hormones, as I'm still hoping through diet, dental

revision, etc., that the hormones will straighten out themselves.

However, the bio-identical hormone replacement therapy is something I

may try in the future.

Thanks for letting us know about the upcoming book by K. Simpson.
