Guest guest
Suzanne, Have you considered getting a second opinion? Maybe that would be helpful for you. Sometimes the doctor can be off base. They are only human. Did you get the second ultrasound on the gb to see how it looked? Maybe it is a combination of two problems? Good luck with your health. Guest guest
Dear Barry, Thank you for your response. I was in such shock after seeing the doctor. I was having bad attacks and had the ultrasound confirmation of gallstones in Sept. It took a long time to get the appt, but I was hoping to have a few good results with my flushing. My GP said - " you need your gallbladder out " . You can imagine my surprise when it was all brushed under the carpet by the specialist and he was more concerned with the colonoscopy. I brought him back to the topic by asking about ways of getting rid of the gallstones and he said they were no big problem for me now. come back later if they are. He said that I would know if there were problems because the pain would be so bad that I'd be on the floor and it's worse than childbearing. I guess that he's experienced that first hand. (Of course, I'm glad not to have to argue re: gallbladder removal -Lucky me! ) I did try for a second ultra sound from him, but to no success. I will now try to get my Gynie Doctor to give me one. And yes, I will certainly need to seek a second opinion. I still wonder how good this idea of colonoscopy is and what are the risks? So if anybody has experience or knowledge......... Guest guest
Suzanne, Yes, when something doesn't seem right by a doctors advice, it is always good to get a second and even a third opinion. Seems the more serious the condition, the more likly this will happen. Like... " Ummm, we need to do a brain transplant " . " Doc, I think I'll get a second opinion on that. After all, it is only a slight headache once a year " . haha You get my drift, right? Listen to your body, and your instincts as well. That inner voice is sometimes more 'valuable' than all those medical certificates on the doctors wall. After all, he is the one driving the BMW, not you. :-) Most people with gallstones never experience colic pain and can live their entire lives with 'silent' stones in their gallbladders. Surgery, medication, alternative methods, are only recommended for people with gallstone problems, not nessessary for people just with gallstones. If you have gallstones without pain, why stir the pot and maybe create problem by flushing or medication just because you don't like the picture of stones in your ultrasound. Doctors will tell you that " if it ain't broke, don't fix it " . They are correct in that. Symptomatic stones are the only stones you need to get immediate relief from. Let the silent stones sleep. Stirring the pot could cause sleeping silent stones to wake up and cause colic to the point that you could be naming the stones for 'birth', or else scheduling removal of the organ that you may have been able to keep if you had left the thing alone. If colic can be controlled by reconditioning your diet, flushing, etc then it is always better to keep your gallbladder for it's reservoir function. This could be a lifetime change to prevent deabillitating pain later. If the gallbladder does not revert back to proper function, the pain is 'too much to live with', the gallbladder is diseased and can cause worse problems later, then surgery is a better option than trying to live with a 'timebomb' organ. How is your progress going? How is your colic? These are personal questions that you need to answer yourself. No doctor, or flush group can tell you what it best for you. :-) Good luck with your health. Be healthy. Barry. > Dear Barry, > > Thank you for your response. Guest guest
had to ask... how does *he* know firsthand that it's worse than childbearing! ;-) although, of course, IT IS!!!! I know that for a fact, and like I told someone recently, the worst of it is it springs up on you, at least with childbirth you get roughly nine months notice and then it's over... the physical pain that is!!! enjoy all, and have a fun weekend off. cheers -----Original Message----- From: suzanne_on_ca [mailto:suzanne_on_ca@...] Sent: Thursday, 28 March 2002 11:56 gallstones Subject: Re: gallstone consultation = colonoscopy Dear Barry, Thank you for your response.
