Guest guest
Norma - No, it wasn't bad, in that it didn't cover a large area. Jim had put a cup of water in the microwave, and made some tea. It was too hot to drink, so he put it on the floor next to him. was upset about something, so I told her to come to me - and she stepped in the cup. She had those footed jammies on, which saved the bottom of her foot. The doctors said the burn looked as though someone had " dipped " her foot in hot water. I was so afraid - I did not put that child down during our whole hospital stay! (We walked the floor all night - her pain was sooo bad!) I was afraid that they would decide it really WAS abuse, and someone would come take her from me. She was three, but non-verbal, which added to their concern.... As for the injury, they had said skin grafts would be needed, and she'd never walk right again. Additional surgeries throughout her childhood.... I was just devastated. They told us to change the dressing once a day, but that the more we changed it, the better off she'd be. So - even though the pain was intense - we did it two or three times a day. When I had a chance, I went to my parents' gravesite and prayed to them....it didn't make sense to me that this child should suffer because her father wasn't thinking. A few days later, when we went to the surgeon, there was hardly a mark on that baby's foot! She's got no scars, no additional surgeries were needed, and she walks fine. And we got an apology from the doctor for thinking we had done this to her on purpose.....
