Guest guest
well now, my name is Mark and I to am type two diabetic and have been for about two years. I don't take any medicine at this time of any kind. I do how ever, watch my carb in take and I do exercise for thirty minutes per day. at this time I don't eat more then forty carbs per day. this is forty grams of carbs in the whold day. is the one who can tell you more about how to do it right and how to control your bs the right way. just listen to , and I can assure you that you will control your bs and feel good doing it as well. this guy knows what he is talking about and he won't miss lead you in any way. you can control your bs with exercise and diet, but it takes the willingness to change your bad eating habits. every one on this list can help you in some way and really does care about each other. don't be afraid to ask questions, even if you think them dumb ones, go a head and ask any way. no such thing as a dumb diabetic question. I believe that you and I both can stay off medicine for a long time by just eating right and doing what the list tells us to do. if you or I don't change our bad habits, then we both will have lots of bad side effects later in life because of sticking our heads in the sand. just remember, having diabetes isn't the end of the world. in my case, I believe getting diabetes was a blessing for my self. I never would have lost weight and changed my bad eating habits, if it hadn't have been for be coming a type two diabetic. nothing got my attention until I found out I was diabetic. now I care about my health and my life style. if I eat wrong now, I feel bad and it isn't any bodies fault but mine. most type two diabetes is caused from over weight and not having the time to exercise on a daily schedule. just sit back, listen and you will learn about how to change your life for the future. glad to have you along and welcome. introduction > Hi All, > > My name is and I was told that I am a borderline diabetic. Guest guest
Well, that test says you are diabetic. Ask your doc to do an A1C and see what it is. Non-diabetic peple have an A1C of less than 6. If your's is above that, you are definately diabetic. This is an important test to keep track of. Also, how is your blood pressure and colosterol and LDL (good colosterol) count. Does diabetes run in your family? If it does and your weight is not what it should be, you are probably diabetic. Re: introduction Hi and , Thank you for the nice welcome. Guest guest
Hi and welcome to list! Main thing you want to read about is counting carbohydrates and watching how many you eat since carbs break down to sugar and raise your blood sugar. So, by limiting how many carbohydrates you eat per meal, and with the help of your oral medication adn exercise, you can live a pretty normal life and never need insulin shots etc. We on list here are moderate carbers, not low carbers like Atkins etc. We just watch how many carbs we eat at each meal since carbs break down to sugar and raise your blood sugar. So, when we say count carbs, please understand we are not low carbers here, we are moderate carbers. Some of us eat 30 grams of carbs at each meal, some 45, some 60, but main thing is keepign your blood sugars under control so you have to check your sugars. Plenty of info on all this on the net and here on list. Do a search in the blind diabetics archives for " carbohydrate counting " and read away. Any questions, feel free to ask we are here to help. Guest guest
, Fast acting carbs-which means anything that is white or called candy-should be avoided. Lots of veggies are encouraged. We have learned to count carbs and can send you a list of recommended foods and their carb counts. Most type 2 diabetics really need to eat low carbs-no more than 60-90 a day. this is higher than the Atkins, but lower than what the American Diabetes Assoc. recommends. Insulin works on carbs and if you eat too many carbs, your body cannot produce enough insulin to use it up. This is a simplification, of course. Often loosing weight will help too-don't know if this applies to you or not as even thin people can become type 2 diaabetics. Re: introduction Hi , Yes Diabetes runs in my family. Guest guest
any thing with flour in it, rice, most fruits, all fruit juice, sugar, potatoes, tomatoes, cereals, posta, any thing high in carbs. some of these things I just said, you can eat, but very small amounts at a time. foods that are really low in carbs, cucumbers, letis, nuts, green beans, spinach, deal pickles, broccoli, cabbage, boiled okra or summer squash, berries, celery, cheese, eggs, and lots of water. beans, other then green beans, are no good. most any kind of meat, doesn't have carbs at all, but still you can't eat all you want to. got to cut down on the size of the piece of meat you eat at a meal. you have heard of the old saying? if it taste good, spit it out, it probably isn't good for you.
