Shake-A-Leg Miami Events Calendar

The activities for our members, friends and families this November are truly unique experiences.

Both the Starlight Thursdays; a music, art, culture and community celebration, and Community

Bay Days; an open house on Biscayne bay, have their kick-off events this month. Our annual HBA tournament is swinging into action and open for more players and teams to fundraise the easy

way. . .playing golf! But while innovation is always occurring at Shake-A-Leg don't forget the

classic services of the watersports center, sailing school and Academy youth programs. There

are still a few spaces available for you and your children to recreate and educate on beautiful Biscayne Bay!

Saturday November 4th

Moonlight Sail

Sailing on Biscayne Bay under the light of the full moon

Every month is selling out so register early to accept you invitation to this Saturday, November 4th, Moonlight Sail. Come join us and the celestial bodies at their finest from eight to eleven in the evening. Be sure to be on time, as the moon rises at 7:55 p.m. with or without its Bay audience. Cost is $15, and members are $10. Register online as this is typically a sell out event or contact Kate to reserve your spot at x103.

Thursday November 9th

Starlight Thursday's

Music...Art...Culture...Don't miss it every second Thursday of the month!

This first event in the monthly series is a multimedia experience merging the beauty of nature and the power of music, art, photography and community. Donation is $5 at the door and all proceeds go to supporting the Shake-A-Leg mission to bring hope, confidence, social integration and fun back into the lives of people with disabilities. There will be live painting with Eva Ruiz, a photo gallery by Anne Korosi and the featured live band Lanzallamas Monofonica. The event will be running from 6:30 - 10:30pm with food and beverages provided.For more information contact Daisy or by phone at ext. 111.

Sunday November 12th

Community Bay Day

Experience the kick-off event to a monthly "taste of the bay" open house

SALM is open to the public from 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm for Sailboat rides, Kayaking adventures, canoeing, charters on the M/V E. Pearson power catamaran, and more! Have a taste of great food, fun, and friends. Get to know your water sports center and everything we have to offer, ways to get involved and opportunities to learn more about water sports. For more information email Meredith or call ext. 123. We will be opening our doors to everyone in the community who wants to join us on the Bay.

Friday November 17th

Non-Profit Expo

Learn about the wonderful Non-Profit organizations for the Key-Biscayne community

The Key-Biscayne Community Foundation is charged with the mission of enhancing the quality of life for all members of our community. This is a chance for Shake-A-Leg to teach all Key-Biscayne residents about the philanthropic opportunities within our organization. We would like to get a lot of exposure and awareness of all the wonderful and interesting ways to volunteer and help within our community. Please come and support SALM and the many other organizations that will be attending the event by volunteering as ambassadors.

Thursday November 30th

5th Annual HBA Golf Classic

Come play gold and support SALM

This great event will be taking place at the Miccosukee Golf and Country Club starting at 10:30 AM. It is a wonderful opportunity to play a great game and support several charitable organizations at the same time. All direct sales to our members, friends and families to the Golf Classic directly benefit SALM. The overall event will additionally help support the Little Havana Activities and Nutrition Centers of Dade County. Registration will begin at 10:30 AM and the event will continue throughout the day ending with cocktails and awards at 5:30. Please get a foursome together or go it alone, each shot you take gives a little more to Shake.

Sunday Race Series

Come on and compete with the best!

Every Sunday at SALM there will be boat racing. Come down and try to beat the best at SALM who compete weekly. All SAiling vessels are welcome to compete and the after event keeps the competition and enjoyment continuing on land. A late afternoon outing to enjoy the sundown

Become a sundowner and enjoy the only weekday evening that the docks stay open! Come to SALM to enjoy the beautiful sunsets on the water. It is every Thursday and there are always a lot of people who come out, so don't miss out!

Highlights!

SALM receives Service Award

The Miami Dade Rotarians awarded the community service award to Mr. Harry Horgan last month at the Rusty Pelican restaurant, their regular Thursday luncheon. MR. Horgan accepted the plaque, telling the club members "how much their involvement helped Shake-A-Leg-Miami achieve its goal to integrate, educate and celebrate life on the water not only for the disabled, and the disadvantaged, but also for our entire community and beyond."

After-School Student is City of Miami Essay Winner

Congratulations to s , one of nine City of Miami "lights on after-school" essay contest winner. s is a 5th grader from Eneida Harter attending Shake-A-Legs After-School program. , the after-school program coordinator, had this to say about s, "He did an absolutely outstanding job in his essay. We acknowledge the amount of time and effort he put into his essay, and are very proud of his achievement". Thanks to Mayor Manny who designed the contest and further asked s to read his essay on stage to over 1,000 students attending the celebration. His family and the SALM staff are incredibly proud of this literary achievement.
