Guest guest
Hi everyone: I wanted to comment on the Liver Cleansing diet that's been discussed this morning. You might remember that a few weeks ago I went to a nutritionist that works in the hepatology department at the University of Washington Medical Center. She specializes in dealing with people getting ready for liver transplant and others with liver disease. Since I was told that I had to lose weight in order to be eligible for transplant, I was referred to her to set up a viable program for weight loss. She made no reference to any kind of vegetarian or 'liver cleansing' program and did not recommend any kind of herbal or vitamin supplement. What she did do was to modify the diabetic/hypoglycemia diet that I was already following. Most healthy diets are based on diabetic eating plans. It basically deals with 3 small meals a day, and 2 or 3 small healthy snacks. Of course sugar, salt and fat must be cut down on, but basically, within limits, I'm able to eat just about anything that I want. I began the modified program on July 31st and have lost about 10 lbs so far. The first 5 or so came off real easily, but it has slowed down now. I hadn't been able to lose weight since starting on the prednisone and gaining 50 lbs, so this has been quite an accomplishment for me. I don't know how much more I'll be able to lose before I start to taper the prednisone again, but have been encouraged that it's not as impossible to lose weight on prednisone as I had thought it was going to be. The simple truth is that I was eating too much for my activity level and not exercising at all. I'm still not able to exercise as much as they'd like me to, but at least I've made a good start and am trying a little more each day. If anyone would like for me to detail the 'food plan' that I'm following, I would be happy to write it out and e-mail it to you personally. Guest guest
Hi Kathy; I would appreciate your food plan. I have lost about 10 lbs since going off prednisone in May but now have to be back on prednisone so would very much like not to gain but lose more. Thanks for the offer & keep up the good luck with you efforts. Leona M. AIH

Guest guest
Kathy, Why don't you create a web page with the diet on it. We could all benefit from it. Thanks,
Guest guest
Joan I have Dr Cabot " Liver Cleansing Diet " I bought it after listening to her on the radio a couple of years ago. I felt i had the symptoms of a sick liver. But the doctor i was seeing at the time told me i was getting old and must expect these things. How unprofessional, and i believed her. I found the diet to be helpful, and still use some of her recipes, especially the breakfast and water consumption. I haven't tried any of the herbal remedies. But might one day. Her philosophy makes sense to me, and i have picked up some good habits from reading the book. I have also purchased her book on " The Healthy Liver & Bowel Book " There are some beaut recipes in it. However a dietitian told me that the liver cleansing diet lacked in some areas, especially protein and iron. So make sure you have a balanced diet your liver needs it. Take Care AIH Melbourne __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi Sue and Everyone else, I took the book to all my doctors, they saw nothing wrong with the diet other then needing more protein. And the herbs and vitamin regeime were fine to try also. I have my counts tested monthly, I don't know about the rest of you but I get tired of seeing my doctors so much. LOL...But it is working for me, so go figure. But thank you for your concern. How is everyone this beautiful morning? I feel really good this morning, but have a lot to do today. And don't really want to do anything but play on the computer. He he he...that beats the heck out of house work doesn't it.. But, isn't there always a but somewhere, I must get things done. Have a great day everyone, and remember Love Your Liver and Immune System. And laugh a lot, laughter is healing. Joan

Guest guest
ine, There is a book our called " The Liver Cleansing Diet " . I found it at and Nobles, but I have also seen it listed on the internet for books pertaining the Hep C. It breaks it down step by step and has many recipes included. It is a little overwhelming at first, as you have to follow it strictly. But the benefits outweigh the problems. Hope this helps. I had looked on her site but didn't find that sample menu. It's interesting that she advocates eating meat and eggs at a time when so many are recommending staying away from animal products. I don't have a problem with that, especially as I'm not currently ready to make any commitment to a vegan lifestyle! I just thought it was interesting - also that she suggests having fruit for dessert when others say that since fruit digests more quickly it's better to have it before other things. Anyway, thanks - that gives me an additional glimpse into it. I'm not usually one for following a particular regimen, but this sounds like there's a lot of flexibility in it, so it might work for me (and my rebellious nature!). Thanks again. in health, rachel~ The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it and ignorance may deride it, but in the end there it is.
