Guest guest
My prayers will be with you and your son Ken. Need some help Though it's not often that I ask for support, everyone has always come through for me (as we all do for those in need). Well, not sure what's going on with my eldest - . The long-timers know about and her problems, well, now has his own. Though we were suspecting Lyme disease, sounds as though there is something ominous on the horizon. He's had some bone pains, and chills, fever, general being run-down feelings for a couple of weeks. He now has fairly localized bone pain in his leg, no trauma, and now has a positive bone scan (radio-active dye concentrated in an area with increased bone destruction and reconstruction) which is seen in breaks, infection, and tumors. As there's no history of trauma, and his blood counts are normal, makes his parents wonder about the third possibility. Going to a few docs over the next few days, but don't see how we're going to get away from the possibility of biopsy. Needless to say, things are a little crazy around our house, so if you don't hear from me in a timely fashion, hope you'll understand. Guest guest
Ken, I've thought of you and your family often ever since reading your post. Sometimes it must feel as though you have already spent your allowance of emotional energy and time. Please remember all those of us who are out here with you, even if from long distances. Guest guest
So, Ozmee, if you need that weekly weigh-in,. GO to your weekly weigh-in. Can't you? Keep paying " WW " but instead of giving THEM the check, put it in a special account and either donate it to your church, charity, or buy something that will help you keep on track... - I think I feel a little lost without my > weekly weigh in. That is as best as I can explain it. Does anyone > understand? >
Guest guest
Janie, Do you recall right off hand the web site to order Armour from,I can't find it! Smart Drug or something like that.. Thank's, Shirley Re: Need some help > My daughter called and got her test results today, last week on Tuesday she went on 1/2 grain of Armour. > T4 was3.5 > TSH was 39.5!!! Good lord I did'nt even know what to tell her. Shirley, here it is, straight. What you tell her is that a doc who would only test her TSH and T4 is a HORRIBLE doc for correct thyroid treatment and analysis!! He is ignorant. She ALWAYS needs to have checked a free T3 and a Free T4. And her goal is to get the free T3 to the upper part of the range, if not higher...no matter HOW low it will eventually get her TSH. And also tell her that 1/2 grain is FAR FAR too small a dose to stay on much longer than 3-4 weeks considering how high her THS is right now. Otherwise her hypo will return with a vengeance. The reason......when you introduce natural thyroid to your system, the pituitary gland sends a message via the TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) for her own thyroid to lower it's already miserably low output. So that lowered output, combined with a dosage that is WAY too low, will allow her hypo symptoms to return even worse!! If it was me (and I am only giving myself as an example), I would move up to one grain, stay on it for at least 3 weeks (to make sure I handle the T3 ok), then go up to 1 1/2 grains. On the latter, I would stay on at least 5-6 weeks, then do labs again. Or, if lab fees are not covered by insurance, test the basal temp in the morning, and pay attention to symptoms. And the bottom line when raising dosages is to go up a little at a time. Hopefully, she can find a doc in one of the Top Doc lists in the LINKS section of this site who is described as prescribing Armour and testing the free's. If in doubt, CALL the office and ask. Keep us informed. Janie
