(maybe that's a stretch). For the chest congestion, though, I'd suggest Apple Cider Vinegar. An incredible item also is Dr. Schulze's " SuperTonic " . When I had a cold a while back, a dose of that (it's in liquid form) would really help to break up the congestion. It's awesome stuff!! Hope you feel better soon, rachel~

One of the sites I looked at said that Britain uses barley water in this way like Americans use cranberry juice. Since I've never cared for cranberry juice I'm glad to have an alternative in case I have a problem like that in the future! in health, rachel~

Guest guest
Re: more about Barley Water Thanks, Joyce.....I have a friend in California who always seems to have a bladder infection. I'll pass that info on to her. Sometimes the answers are so simple. Also, juniper berries cure bladder problems. Betsy Joyce wrote: > Barley Water works. Guest guest
I did a search about Barley Water and found that it's supposed to be good for all sorts of things. I thought I'd share some of it with you. in health, rachel ================= -One site says it keeps well in the refrigerator for up to a week and another said to use it within 24 hours. Several said that it should be sipped through the day. -cleanses the liver -enhances the function of the liver and kidneys -helpful with coronary heart disease -soothes the urinary tract (similar to cranberry juice) -improves urination -good tonic for weak persons -clear up the complexion -softens the skin -stops the formation of wrinkles ======= > Barley - A bodybuilding tissue healing grain that is good in all wasting or > debility. It contains an alkaloid called hordenine which is diuretic, > mildly relaxing for the chest. It is renowned as barley water for kidney > problems where it can be combined with Corn Silk for urinary stones, > infection or irritation. ======= s' (tennis & croquet club supplier) best known product, Barley Water, was invented when a representative attended The Championships in the summer of 1928 and decided to make up a refreshing drink for the players. It was made from s patent barley, fresh lemon juice, ice and sugar. Over 250 gallons were consumed during that year's tournament alone and a long-standing British tradition was started. ========= The decoction of barley water so ridiculed in the Poppins movie was actually a masterstroke of medical wizardry on the part of the ancient Greek doctor Hippocrates. He prescribed it for many ailments, sometimes with the grain, sometimes as a filtered liquid. ========== The best way to deal with simple childhood fevers is to help the body do its job. I call it the grandmother system: warm it up, go along with it, instead of cooling it down and going against it. Here are some simple home remedies: Do not offer solid foods, but do offer plenty of fluids, warm or at room temperature, such as chamomile tea, warm diluted apple juice, water either plain or with lemon, or the traditional barley water. To make barley water, simmer 2 tablespoons barley in 1 ½ cup water, covered, for an hour. Strain and serve. ========
