Guest guest
Hi everyone. I will finish round one tonight. Have been giving my 30lb. son approx. 15 mg. DMSA every 4 hours. My question is this.....Since I have the DMSA from VRP, it comes in 100 mg capsules. This means I have to divide one tiny capsule into sixths to get one dose. And one capsule will last about 24 hours worthof dosing. Is it okay if I mix one whole capsule in 6 tsp. of pear juice, and then just get out a tsp. at a time per dose? I am giving my son his medication via syringe, just squirt in his mouth with a bit of pear juice. But mixing in 1/6th of the capsule into a small amount of juice is difficult. Was thinking that if I mixed the whole capsule into 6 tsp. it would be easier to just pull out one tsp. each time I want to dose. Would this be okay? Any contraindications to pre-mixing into pear juice for up to 24 hours?? THanks. By the way, the only side-effects I have noticed with this first round is that my son has had a sweaty head. Otherwise, everything seems okay.

Guest guest
Hi all! I am new to this listserv and just started chelating my 7 year old daughter yesterday. She is getting 200mg. DMSA every 8 hour for 3days on/11 off. She is 56 lbs. I have a few questions that I hope you all can answer: She is able to communciate her needs but is not conversational. Are there any advantages to a 4-hr dosing schedule vs an 8-hour schedule?? Are long will it take before I can expect to see any results? At what stage do I begin using ALA? How often should I have her urine tested? Should this be the first urine in the morning or after her dose of DMSA? Is this the right doseage for her weight? (Her doctor has only just started chelating children so I just want to be sure) Have any of you started chelation with a child of 7 and had some good results?? Thanks, in advance! paula
Guest guest
Hi a, welcome, >Are there any advantages to a 4-hr dosing schedule vs an 8-hour >schedule?? I'm glad relayed her experience. Quite a few parents have reported icky results with 8-hour and okay with 4-hour. Some have no problems on 8-hour. Your mileage may vary. You can read more about it here: /files/ANDY_INDEX Look in the section about " chelation schedules and dosages " . read some of the items about " good and bad chelation schedules " . As you will notice, Andy has a rather distinct opinion about this particular matter. Also, this topic is discussed here almost all the time--- it is one of the few 'always popular' topics on the list. You can also read this info regarding 4-vs-8 hour dosing: /files/POLLS best, Moria [mercury toxic adult, doing chelation on mySELF, no kids; I have not used 8-hour myself-- so can't comment about personal experience on this.]

Any contraindications to pre-mixing into >pear juice for up to 24 hours?? Hi , According to Andy (as I understand him anyhow), if mixed in advance (not for immediate consumption) then DMSA should be mixed in some reasonably acidic (tart or sour tasting) juice. Acidic fruit juices (lemonade, limeade, or pineapple juice for example). I don't know that pear would qualify. Does your son like OJ? Andy has also said to limit the number of doses that are premixed and then use them up in a reasonable amount of time. But I'm not sure how many doses this would be, or how long is a reasonable time. I actually have a different suggestion. This one will not help you immediately (LOL): I suggest that you call VRP and TELL THEM what sort of doses you would prefer to buy from them. I have told them that I think they should consider selling SMALLER doses -- say 50 mg and 25 mg. Maybe 15 and 20 mg would be better. Or even 10 and 15?? I think it would probably cost a little more (due to the packaging issues) for the same amount of DMSA (I don't know about this sort of thing). I explained that lots of parents are chelating KIDS and need small amounts. Anyway, if --oh--- 10 or 20 parents called VRP about this, I would guess it would have some effect. I suggest telling them that you are a customer (if you are!), that you are chelating your CHILD, and the SPECIFIC dose you would like to buy capsules of (e.g. 10 mg, 20 mg, etc). I'm sure they are perfectly capable of doing this, and I know of no reason that they would not be receptive. A recent catalog which arrived at my house advertises a new higher dose ALA that they are selling. (I complained to them about it, explaining that this is more dangerous if people take it not knowing about its chelating properties, have amalgams, etc. To my great awe, the rep I was talking to understood what I was talking about.) I'm sure this sort of suggestion would have the most impact if it comes from people who REALLY WILL buy the revised product (which I won't). best, Moria p.s. I think the mixing-6-tsps-then-using-1-tsp-per-dose is okay. It is about all you can do. Try to get it to " mix in " though, and maybe stir it up for a sec before measuring out the 1 tsp? The only issue would be trying to get it " even " . So, you just do your best.
