Hey All:

I need some help in a decision.

Ever since being burnt off for HPV, having constant UTI's with that guy and

yeast infections, I took time out to heal. I've been without any infections

of any kind for a year. Plus without a guy or sex.

All of the above was very traumatic for me and after 2 yrs at Gyno's offices

and Uro almost every week when I was with the ex boyfriend, needless to say,

I stayed away. Now it's time to get help.

Here's my problem. There aren't any good VV specialists in my area at all.

I've did all the calling, believe me. I'm also stuck with CFS so am very

limited to where I can drive too. A block away? LOL.

I am debating on whether I should go back to the gyno that burnt off the HPV

since she has my entire history. She knows where she burnt it off and the

problems I've had. I sent her the Dr. theory as well as the Estrace

one. She was very open to it. She was going to send me to a Vulvar Pain

Physical Therapy Clinic as well. I didn't go because at the time the thought

of anyone touching me " down there " sent me into a panic, plus it's far away

and having PT twice a week with CFS is impossible physically.

She also was the one to suggest what Dee is using, Estrace every day and

Testerone, which I can never spell, twice a week. At the time, I cringed in

panic of having anything applied where I might get another UTI. So I blew off

her suggestion and haven't been back since. She also kept saying I looked

fine down there and never did a Q tip test.

My conflict is, she was so mean with the HPV thing. She was in a hurry that

day, seemed annoyed and didn't explain the aftermath. After this happened and

I called her, she did admit there can be pain and big problems afterwards.

This is after the fact though. I should have been warned. Also in all this I

did see another gyno who said I never had HPV. I wouldn't return to her as

she's not board certified. I wasn't impressed with her either. She seemed to

suggest I see other doctors. SO it wasn't her field.

The thought of going to a new gyno who is NOT going to know all this since

none of this gynos are specialists in VV tires me just thinking about. Plus

she's a woman who I prefer to see. I don't like men gynos.

Do I see the person who gave me all this pain or do I start fresh with a

regular gyno who will rush me out with tons of creams and tells me to have a

nice day?

Any suggestions. I'm ready to get better now. I'm over the trauma. I'd love

opinions. It might sound like I'm siding to see the old gyno, but I'm not.

I'm truly confused, as you can see. Sorry for the long post!

Thanks everyone!

Love, Lainey

Lainey, If I were you I would get all of my records from your former Gyn.

and find one that you trust. It might take awhile, find a woman, ask

friends, even if you have to educate her. More and more doctors are now

familiar with vulvar problems. Do you have a University in your city? Many

times the University's medical center will be very helpful with new ideas.

With all of the information that you get on the internet you are more than

likely more educated than many of the doctors in this particular area. Unil

we get more Pelvic Pain Clinic's we are sort of on our own. I have seen so

much improvement over the years in the doctor's knowledge of Interstitial

Cystitis and Vulvadynia. Good luck. Warm regards, Donna

Hi Lainey,

Where do you live? It sounds like you still have a lot of options left to

try. I am glad you are so motivated to get well. I know how you feel, but I

would not go back to her. You need someone who cares. It sounds like she

doesn't have the patience or expertise to handle vv. You would probably do

better with a caring family doctor who would be willing to help. Have you

contacted the VPF or VNA yet? Maybe, they could suggest someone in your

area. The list they gave me included dermos,PTs, urologists, family doctors

etc. I'm sure there are other women suffering in your area, unfortunately.

I hope you find someone soon.

Take care,

Love,

Sandi

Sandi:

I don't know what the VNA is? Do you have that address? When I got in touch

with the VPF they didn't have anyone in my area. So far both opinions on here

are to move onto someone new. Thanks for your encouragement. It means a lot.

Donna:

I didn't even think about getting copies of all my records. I feel so seated

in cement when it comes to gyno's that I hadn't even thought of the logical

step. Good suggestion. I am afraid our biggest university isn't within

driving distance for me with my limited health.

Hi Lainy,

I took some time off to heal as well (not from my man, I'm married - to a

great guy I might add) but time off from gyn visits and sex. I am also

ready to figure this thing out and was debating whether to see somone new or

go to my old gyn. Anyway I just found out that the gyn. I was seeing (vv

specialist) has just relocated to MONTANA - for crying out loud. I'm in the

southeast. I haven't found out wheter or not there is anyone else in my

area, but I wish I had looked into it earlier. I do think the " time off "

helped A LOT!!. So, I would think that if you do go to someone new, you get

copies of all of your medical records and create a list for your new doc.

If you walk in prepared, they will not as likly put you through a multitude

of creams etc. on the other hand, they will tend to want to rule out

infections, etc. and will probably want to do all of that testing themselves

even if you had it done before; it's a logistic nightmare to switch

doctors. HMMMMM...... what to do-what to do?

Where do you live? (general area) Are there any universities near you?

Perhaps you could find some names there? I wouldn't just go to a reg. gyn.

S/he will probably start yuou at ground zero. i just had a reg. gyn appt.

after not seeing anyone since 11/98. What a joke. so i am back to square

one too. It is also limiting for you to only see females, although I

totally understand. See if there is a male specialist in your area. Even

if you never see him, you will know if one is around. Perhps he would be

willing to consult with you on a verbal basis for a while and then go from

there? Or perhaps he could give you a name??

Take care of you.
