Guest guest
Dear Listmates, This discussion of IEPS has been so helpful. I reitterate Deb's THANKS to Celeste for all she provides to the list. Celeste, you really deserve a medal! I have a question related to eligibility. I was wondering if people might give their opinions on an eligibility of autism being given to a deaf child when the tester is not a signer and the child communicates in sign language? Would such an eligibility report be considered valid? Thanks, Keedy Portland, OR

Celeste, you really deserve a medal! I " m starting to get embarrassed. Kay already gave me a cyber-medal. I just want to spare parents the grief I went through on my daughter's behalf, and do what I can to help the kids get FAPE. To put it in another perspective, earlier this week, a spedmin was *very* upset with my vigorous advocacy on behalf of a client. I told him that God made me fiesty for a reason. And God doesn't have any BAD reasons. LOL! > >I have a question related to eligibility. Would such an eligibility report be considered valid? Validity is usually left for a court to determine. It certainly is highly suspect, and as an advocate, I wouldn't accept it. Unfortunately, I am not a court of competent jurisdiction. 8>P The most obvious path is to send a letter to the Dir of Sped stating that you disagree with the evaluation, and request an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) at public expense.
