Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the list. YOu will find it to be a great source of support, especially if you have a sense of humor as we are a bit nutty at times. But this is the most support I have ever had for losing weight. Guest guest
Welcome to the list . This is a great place for tips, support and encouragement. Beth Hi, Just joined the group tonight. I had a physical yesterday, and I hate to say it, but I am at my all time high as far as weight goes. I have done the low carb diet before, but it has been a few years. I did well for a few months, until I hit that plateau, followed by a vacation and have not looked back since. Now that I had that wake up call, I am back on the low carb diet, which will remain a way of life this time. Thought I would join the group this time for some encouragement, and information as I get back into this. Tomorrow morning I am cleaning out the cupboards and whatever is not low carb, is outta here. The unopened stuff will go to work with me and into the box for donations to our local food pantry. I am determined this time to lose it and keep it off. And I need to get back on the NordicTrack and start lifting weights again...(they are just collecting dust at the moment). Guess that's enough for now....just wanted to say hi. 205/205/

Guest guest
Thanks for the welcome! I have 3 days behind me now and 7 lbs gone! This is very exciting. I have a dilemma facing me this weekend though. We are invited to a friend's house for dinner and I have not told this friend about the diet I am doing. (I don't think she will be supportive.) How do I save the day? Should I eat less the rest of the day and eat just a little of what ever she is having? I know these things are going to happen and I don't want to feel like a failure if I don't know my carbo count for one meal. Any help I will appreciate! Guest guest
Call ahead and find out what she's going to be serving. You might be find by just skipping the starch. It it's something like lasagna with garlic bread you're in trouble! Would your friend be supportive of you losing weight? Can you just say you aren't eating flour, sugar and starchy foods? Most people can relate to that - it's the name Atkins or high-protein or no carbs that they get fussy over. But a plate with some meat and veggies on it does look like a typical diet plate to me. Can you offer to bring something? Maybe a veggie and cheese tray for starters or a dessert (we've got tons of great dessert recipes that non low-carbers love too and don't even have to realize are low carb!). My advice would be to plan to stick to your diet. If you don't want her to know at all, eat a bunch of protein before you go. Take small servings of things you shouldn't have and larger servings of those you can. Most people won't call you on what you are eating unless you make a big deal about it. Just don't eat the bad stuff on your plate! Shuffle it around a little If questioned, say " it tastes' really great, but I had a big lunch and my eyes were bigger than my stomache " . If you've told her you can't eat the starchy stuff, she'll probably make sure there are extra veggies for you. I went 14 months of family functions and eating out before I first cheated - I wish I never had! With a little fore thought and planning, the night will be a breeze! And think of how great you'll feel the next day reporting how well you did! Kirstie
Guest guest
Tell your friend that your doctor has told put you on a diet that requires avoiding sugar, white flour, and starches. A friend will not argue with your doctor's advice. Only you need to know that your doctor's name is Atkins. Jean 190/142/135 12/7/

Guest guest
Hi, Kathy, welcome to the group. May I refer you to our bookmarks for newbies, link at bottom of this post...it'll give you some excellent reading sources about type 2 and diabetes in general. Ask any questions you like. Many of us here use a lower carb approach to BG control, as you'll learn if you read our " success stories, " links at bottom too.
