Guest guest
Hi all, It's been a while since I've subscribed, I hope that everyone is doing well. Things have been so absolutely normal in my life, it has been a fabulous change. I do have one question: has anyone made the switch to Unithroid (the FDA-approved T4)? I just switched about a week & a half ago, and I was wondering if I should get my levels checked, since I've been on Synthroid for so long. I've been feeling very good (it almost seems too good), and my hands are warm all the time (I'd gotten used to them being cold). I think this may be what normal feels like, but I'm just not sure, and I'm a little worried I might be hyper if the Synthroid I was taking was less potent than the Unithroid. Any thoughts or experiences? I hope you all had wonderful holidays, and best wishes to everyone. Liz Snyder dx 1997 Hurthle cell ca
Guest guest
I switched from Synthroid to Unithroid, and it worked the same. My reason for switching was that Unithroid is a little cheaper than synthroid. As for retesting, I would say that's a good idea, but not after just a week. I would wait a few weeks, give your system time to adjust. I believe the general rule is six weeks for any type of change to stabilize. Guest guest
My understanding is that when you change brands, you're supposed to get tested after about 6 weeks to be sure you're still at the right tsh. I changed from Synthroid to Levoxyl -- but I made the switch when going back on meds after my scan and have to get tested after 6 weeks anyway! bj Unithroid? > > I do have one question: has anyone made the switch to Unithroid (the FDA-approved T4)? Guest guest
If you remained on the same dosage when switching from one brand to another, things probably have not changed drastically, but it would be a good idea to have bloodwork done anyway. Bloodwork should not be done for 6 weeks however since the half-life of levothyroxine is 7 days. It takes about 6 half-lives for the level of the medication to reach its ultimate level in the body. If you've only been on Unithroid for 1 1/2 weeks, it's too soon to get the complete picture of any changes this may have made in bloodwork.
