Guest guest
Hi Sandi & everyone I really feel for you at the moment - I have 24/7 burning all the time, getting worse in the evening with intense itching to boot! I am at the end of my tether as all medication seems to have done for me is make me worse! I had an absolutely horrible experience last week when I went to see my consultant in London. I had asked my GP (home doctor) to put me on Diflucan (14 days at 50mg) and this had caused me extreme itching. I just wanted to ensure I didn't have yeast even though I didn't have symptoms. My consultant was really annoyed with me and said, " All you ever do is come here and self diagnose and tell me what your American list says you should be taking. " I was stunned. I want to start using the oestrogen cream but she was really dismissive saying that it wouldn't help me. She did give me Premarin (Estrace is not available yet in the UK) in order that my curiousity would be satisfied. I walked out of the treatment room with tears in my eyes. I'm so confused. I started using the Premarin cream and my vulva has burned and itched so badly that I have had to stop - after only 4 days with two applications a day- I'm in agony and the night before last, I just couldn't sleep because the pain was so bad. For the first time, I have also started to feel twinges of muscular pain around the vulval area and sometimes down my inner thighs. I often feel that the search for a cure is making me worse - that I was better without treatment. I want to start looking at more natural approaches such as homeopathy and accupuncture and maybe take a break from all medication, doctors and the search for an answer. Maybe a basic improvement in my overall health might be a good place to start. I would appreciate any feedback anyone might have. Guest guest
dear Fay, I feel so badly for you and your dismissive doctor experience. I've been self-diagnosing myself, too as well as many other people! I use my doctors for some of my care, but I leave my instincts and MY powers of research to investigate treatments and options. You know your body better that anyone else! Some people have changed doctors after an experience like this...but not everyone can, for insurance and/or financial reasons. I admire your assertiveness in trying to solve this puzzle...and I want to offer you some support. If you see this doctor again, remind him that he/she needs to walk a mile in your shoes to know how you feel, and that how you feel is an individual thing, AND that he should APPRECIATE how actively involved you are about improving YOUR health! I obviously feel pretty strongly about this! LOL ( perhaps, I've had this conversation with a doctor of mine.....) Take care of yourself -
