Guest guest
Hello all -- I have been reading stuff on this list occasionally since the past summer, when I posted several times. Since then I've been too busy to keep up with it all the time, and I've been silent, but I check up on things as often as I can. Anyhow, in brief: I'm 31 years old with VV, pain on contact mainly, and urinary symptoms as well, seems like IC but I don't have a formal diagnosis there. I'm treating with Estrace and it seems to help the VV some, but, as a lot of people here are saying, it doesn't seem to be the ultimate " cure " . I saw a new nurse-practicioner last week, a really excellent woman bedside-manner wise, and when she examined me she suggested I might have one of those " subclinical " HPV infections, which doesn't make warts but does compromise the tissue in the vestibule. She said she'd seen this before. She suggested I might want to try Aldara cream, which is a relatively new drug for HPV. It works by boosting the immune system against HPV. Unfortunately, one of the side effects of the drug, apparently, is that it can be a real irritant to your skin while you're using it. We talked about whether I would want to risk further irritation to the area in order to possibly treat the problem at the source -- if in fact the source is HPV. I left her office saying I'd think about it. Does anyone have any experience with Aldara, good or bad? I'm going to take my time thinking about whether I want to try this. best wishes to all -- Katprof.
