Guest guest
Hello I had an underbite, and had been seeing an orthodontist for 8 months when he told me that I was ready for the surgery. One hour before the surgery, my surgeon told me that I wouldn't be able to close my mouth because my teeth aren't properly aligned. He had considered canceling the surgery but said that my orthodontist could fix it after the surgery. Before I even began my orthodontic treatment I asked a couple of surgeons whether they could operate on me without undergoing orthodontic treatment first and they said no. Following the surgery I immediately stopped making my monthly payments to my orthodontist. (cancelled my credit card) So, I'm wondering if my orthodontist is incompetent and what I should do next. Thank you
Guest guest
Sounds like there was a lack of communication betwn. your ortho. & your surgeon. Maybe it would have been to your advantage if he had postponed your surgery to a later date -- ofcourse after having alittle chat w/ your orthodontist to discuss your progress. The jaws may not be aligned properly w/o the teeth being aligned properly -- period. Nevertheless -- I don't know how you can get out of not paying for your orthodontic work. You may be stuck w/ that regardless your incompetent orthodontist AND surgeon & cancelling your credit card. > Hello > I had an underbite, and had been seeing an orthodontist for 8 months > when he told me that I was ready for the surgery. Guest guest
I'm pretty much with quietcharms on that. I don't understand much about your situation, actually. You had a surgeon who said you weren't ready, but he went through with the operation anyhow? And he told you the rest of the work could be accomplished by the ortho, but you never went back to the ortho to find out? You'd been " seeing an ortho " -- does that mean, as I'm assuming, that you're in braces now? But have quit going to this ortho for treatment, even though you were told that he can complete the fix? That part I don't understand. Nor that your surgeon couldn't tell you his dramatic message BEFORE sending you to the hospital. I think it's not unusual for an ortho and a surgeon not to agree about when a patient is ready. But I think, and hope, that it is unusual indeed for one to get so far as the OR with a surgeon who thinks one unready. If I were you, I'd flat out ask both, preferably together -- although there's probably no way you can arrange that. So in sequence. Have you asked either one of them what you should do next? And why did you think you could fix anything, or even make it better, by stopping payment for a service you'd been obtaining, if indeed your ortho had been treating, rather than just observing, you? Is this surgeon one of the ones who told you you would have to have ortho first, for the surgery? And how did you find these two docs? Did either of them recommend the other, or did you just match 'em up yourself? A most confused Cammie, who's wishing you good luck, none the less. And are you unhappy with your surgical results? Or has it been long enough for you to know?
