Jenn, Gillian,I really needed to read both of your experiences with caffeine/diet soda. I, too, think diet soda produces artificial hunger and a compulsion to snack. I also have a strong addiction to diet soda --- not just the caffeine.I'm trying to ween myself from diet soda and have been drinking iced green tea... I brew regular with caffeine-free green tea... with the intention of decreasing the ratio of regular to caffeine-free tea used over time.... I'm a weenie when it comes to caffeine withdrawals... but I'm also not trying to go to black/white on this and keep some gray so that I don't limit myself but instead I "prefer" to not have diet soda... and on occasion I can have one... the problem for me is having one now and then becomes too much really quickly. I guess that's what intuitive eating/drinkinig is about... we continue to move ourselves back onto the "optimal highway" every time we hit the

curb!!!

Hi ,

I think it's the diet soda for me too, not just the caffieine. I like the

bubbles and sometimes will drink mineral water instead which is almost as

good, but not quite! I had a bad accident two years ago and was in the

hospital for over a week and then in a hospital bed at home for a few

months. At that time, I stopped drinking diet coke. I think it just

happened, they weren't serving it in the hospital and I was too drugged

to care anyway. So after a few months, I had one diet coke. Then I

started drinking one a week. It's weird, as soon as I said I could have

one, but just one a week, I started drinking more. I went right back into

that deprivation thing. Anyway, I know I will stop drinking it at some

point. And you're right, you just have to get back on the horse so to

speak when you fall off. The great news it gets easier each time to get

back on that horse!

That's exactly my problem with the caffeine... as soon as I tell myself I can

have a little, within the h/f boundaries, I end up " splurging " , which turns into

an all-out pig-fest (be it on chocolate, or Coke, or both). :-? So, my best bet

_for now_ is to just avoid it all-together. :-?
