Guest guest
Janet: Your question about soy got me researching. We all know BBD says no Soy, but I thought I'd look into it further. Here are my thoughts, some web-thoughts, and some sites for you to take a look at. After what I've read, I am firmly convinced that not only should MSer's not eat soy, but NO HUMAN should eat soy or its isolates. I believe we've been sold a " bill of goods " about soy. If you read these sites, you'll be just as scared as I am! First, almost all soy is Genetically Modified. Second, soy tends to suppress thyroid function and alot of MSer's suffer from low thyroid to begin with. Third, I don't believe soy should even be for human consumption. I know the Japanese eat soy, but alot of their soy is fermented (natto, miso, for example) which changes soy. Fourth, and most important, soy contains lectins which promote auto-immunity. I KNOW how you feel about stopping something that helps with depression, even if that something isn't good for you. Believe me, I know. If it helps you, who am I to say do something different? I just want everyone to be as well-informed as we can be. Peace and health, Beverly " Both cereal grains and legumes contain glycoproteins called lectins which bind intestinal epithelial cells and change the permeability characteristics of these intestinal cells (4,5). Not only do these lectins cause an increase = of the translocation of gut bacteria to the peripheracy, they cause an increased overgrowth of gut bacteria as well as a change in the gut flora (4,5). Further, cereal and legume derived lectins (WGA, PHA respectively) cause increased expression of intracellular adhesion molecules (ICAM) in lymphocytes (6) which allow bacterial/immune complexes to move from gut to the affected tissue. Additionally, cereal and legume lectins increase lymphocytic expression of common inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFa), interleukin 1 (IL-1) and IL-6 which are known promoters of autoimmune disease. I know on the BBD we shouldn't have soy but I feel the benefits of these tablets far outweigh any potential soy problems. I'd imagine there isn't much soy left once these tablets are made but could be wrong. I'd love to come off them but don't want to risk depression again
Guest guest
Soy is in most processed foods hidden under various names. Why hide it if it's healthy? Flaxseed has plant estrogens similar to soy and makes a better substitute. The purchased oil is often rancid and contains none of the fiber. Flax supplements have the same randidity issues. I grind seeds in my cafe mill (that has never been used for coffee) and use them the day they're ground. The mucilage that forms when wet is a good binder for raw breads and a good binder in the colon. I even sprinkle it on sliced fruit and on salads. > > Janet: Your question about soy got me researching. We all know BBD > says no Soy, but I thought I'd look into it further. Guest guest
I discussed LDN with my son's Dr. and he said that is not an option. So I'm in search of a Dr. that could prescribe my son LDN. Anyone know of a Dr. in NY Manhattan area? I'm also paying outta pocket since my son found himself in a horrible situation that I'm tryin to help him out in. My son was having trouble with his balance and even with his eye he's looking toward his right side avoiding his left side since its differcult, I'm sure all these symptoms sounds familiar with everyone with MS. Weak limbs, tired all the time, ulcers. Any suggestions I'm all open ears and eyes for directions in trying to help my son, his only 24years old, just been diagnosed 2years ago and has been hospitalized countless times and has been abandoned by his wife. Thank you so much for the feed back. Val Subject: Re: zinc, depression, soy To: mscured Date: Monday, July 28, 2008, 3:07 PM Hi Val. Just about everybody on this list takes LDN! Since this group focuses on alternative medicine, very few take the CRABs. There is a lot of information on LDN in the archives, files and links. Anyone taking LDN I'm looking toward this instead of Crab medicine for my son. Anybody? > > Val >
