Guest guest
Perhaps you should take 2 pills per day throughout the month. Guest guest
Thank you. I was concerned that the body can only absorb so much each day and sloughs off the rest, thereby making my additional pill a waste. Thanks again. Guest guest
Both the doctor and the lab technician told me it may take 6-8 weeks to recover from severe anemia which I had. My doctor nixed the transfusion because the blood loss I had was over a longer period of time. The tech reported that when you donate blood at a blood bank, they make you wait 8 weeks before you can donate again because it takes that long for your bone marrow to reproduce and replace the blood cells. I took (325 mg twice a day) iron twice a day, worked hard at eating iron rich foods, and rested lots. Vitamin C like taking iron with OJ helps improve absorption. They say to avoid caffeine within 2 hours of taking iron since it decreases absorption. I know I followed " the rules " and my count kept imporving quickly and steadily. But since I continued to have heavy bleeding throughout the experience, I was tired. The estrogen, " the pill " , only slowed down bleeding for awhile only. I had the estrogen increased to 3 pills a day! Bleeding sort of stopped within 3 days, but my ob.gyn said that I could have taken 10 pills a day without solving the problem. My body would have adjusted to the chemicals and started to bleed again. It would also not " fix " the cause. The whole ordeal has been tiresome. It sure sounds like from this forum that so many women go through a range of similar symptoms and problems. Re: Re: Iron > Thank you. I will start taking two a day and I do take them with OJ or apple juice now, so that's good. I find it interesting that the fact the blood loss occurred over a period of time would be the deciding factor in whether or not to give a transfusion. Sudden loss or gradual loss seems to make a difference. I didn't know this.
Guest guest
I would check with your doctor, but it seems that you could take more iron. Also I take a herb yellow dock that helps with anemia and rebuilding iron levels (tincture). Are you drinking plenty of water? When I have a heavy period I have to drink lots of water and it helps with headaches and dizziness. Robyn A. Iron I am having an extremely heavy period and I woke up this morning with a dreadful headache. This happens every time because I bleed so heavily. Does it make sense to take TWO iron pills during my period to make up for the blood loss? I am trying to build up my blood count and I sometimes feel I am going one step forward and two backwards. _________________________________________________________

Guest guest
Yes a big difference. I notice the 1st difference when I got to 9.2 I was feeling almost back to normal. Now that I'm 13.8 I feel normal. with the exception of a 19 cm fibroid I feel healthy. Maybe trying the liquid liver capsules will help you. Guest guest
Do you feel much different now your iron is back up? Mine is 7.2 and it's been so long since I have not been anemic, I can't remember what it's like NOT to be anemic. Guest guest
Hi, You might want to try the herb Kelp. I was anemic due to fibroids. Iron pills prescribed by my gyny, made me constipated and stool dark. I started taking Kelp instead, 450mg- 2 capsules 3/day. My anemia greatly improved within a month without the side effects of iron pills Happy New Year to all, Kitty --- steve & rosemetzker wrote: > Both the doctor and the lab technician told me it > may take 6-8 weeks to > recover from severe anemia which I had. Guest guest
Good to know. I didn't take kelp pills, but just basically ate the same thing. At the worse of my anemia, I had cravings for dried seaweed. Weird until you realize the iron content in some of the foods I was craving. Re: Re: Iron > > > > > > > Thank you. Guest guest
Make sure your multiple is Iron-Free??? Beverly " Multiple sclerosis (MS) and its animal model, experimental allergic encephalomyelitis (EAE), are autoimmune disorders resulting in demyelination in the central nervous system (CNS). Pathologically, the blood-brain barrier becomes damaged, macrophages and T cells enter into the CNS, oligodendrocytes and myelin are destroyed, astrocytes and microglia undergo gliosis, and axons become transected. Data from several biochemical and pharmacological studies indicate that free radicals participate in the pathogenesis of EAE, and iron has been implicated as the catalyst leading to their formation. The primary focus of this article is the examination of the role of iron in the pathogenesis of MS and EAE. Particular attention will be paid to the role and distribution of iron and proteins involved with iron metabolism (e.g., transferrin, ferritin, heme oxygenase-1, etc.) in normal and disease states of myelin. Furthermore, therapeutic interventions aimed at iron, iron-binding proteins, and substrates or products of iron-catalyzed reactions leading to free radical production will be discussed. Guest guest
Hi , I take iron supplements and have done for many years, they stop me fainting, I think my fainting was worse for the MS than the iron is. . Does anyone else out there with m.s. take iron supplements? .
