Guest guest Posted September 27, 2005 Report Share Posted September 27, 2005 Ethnographer Required Project Parivartan is a two-year research study of community-led structural interventions for HIV prevention among sex workers and their clients in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, India. Funded by the Avahan AIDS India Initiative of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Project Parivartan is affiliated with the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS (CIRA), located at Yale University, USA. Project Parivartan wishes to recruit an Ethnographer. Based in Rajahmundry, the Ethnographer will participate in a wide variety of research activities relating to initial and ongoing implementation of a community led structural intervention with sex workers led by a Rajahmundry-based NGO. The overall purpose of this project is to develop an analytical understanding of the factors associated with successful implementation of community-led structural interventions and to assess the context of risk among sex workers. Job Duties: * Conduct participant observation of the environment of sex work in the East Godavari district * Keep extensive, detailed, and accurate field notes in English (typed) * Conduct focus group and key informant interviews with sex workers and key stakeholders, such as police, community leaders, non-sex worker community residents, local business owners, etc. This includes recruiting participants, organizing interview and focus group logistics, participating in the design of interview guides, and facilitating the interview or focus group. * Develop and maintain relationships with NGO staff and government officials throughout East Godavari * Collect and analyze media reports, meeting minutes, and other text data * Code, summarize, and assist with analysis of qualitative data * Travel throughout the East Godavari district * Other duties as deemed necessary by the India Study Director The successful candidate should possess the following requirements: * Several years work experience in the field of sexuality and HIV/AIDS * A post-graduate degree in social sciences or social work * Strong work ethic * Interest to work with sex workers and their clients * Fluent ability to read, write and speak Telegu and English * Familiarity with MS Office and e-mail Interested candidates should submit their resume by e-mail to Annie at Annie.@....
