There are vitamins and herbs that are very specific for the eyes. ...RP

I am curious if anyone had a

remission from optic neuritis after a long term bout like I have had,

and also does anyone have any particular ideas about healing optic

neuritis, beyond the regular things we talk about in this group (BBD,

LDN,etc).

Thanks,

I also have ON in my left eye and partly in my right eye due to MS.

It hasn't improved in the past year and, as with most people, gets

considerable worse when I heat up.

I've been reading a few posts discussing the use of lecithin -- has

anyone seen definite improvement through its use? I've ordered some

high strength Lecithin 1200mg capsules and will let you know if it

helps.

Best

Dan,

I have.

I had lost most of the vision in my left eye, and a significant amount

in my right. I had to stop driving, had to close one division of my

business, because I could no longer see well enough to do graphic

design. (I'm a writer and editor, and I do graphic design work on the

side)

Until the ON hit, I had 20/20 vision. The ON hit me all at once.

Literally in an instant. I was lying on the floor, watching a movie with

my older kids and husband. When the movie was over, I got up and sat at

my computer and I couldn't read the screen. That's when I realized I

couldn't make out the huge Walmart at the other side of the

intersection, either. (we had huge picture windows on our second floor

living room.

About half an hour later I got really dizzy and my ears started to ring.

I couldn't even sit up. We thought about going to the hospital, but

since I was having other ms problems, too we fiigured it was ms

related.

The next morning my left eye was completely fuzzy. And it stayed that

way for over 6 months. Some days were better than others, but overall,

my vision was rotten.

I started taking fish oil and lecithin together 3x every day. Slowly and

steadily, my vision improved. I still have mild problms if the sun is to

bright, and flourecent lights still make me see spots, but I've solved

those problems by wearing polarized sunglasses if my eyes get fuzzy.

Something about the polorized lenses clears the fuzziness right up.

Overall, though the fish oil and lecithn helped my body heal the eye

nerve tissue.

hth,

Yvette

I have had ON since January 07, so just over a year and a half. One

person I know with MS says he had ON for 2 years and then at about 2

years his vision gradually came back within a couple of months. That

gives me a little bit of hope. From what I read, most cases of ON

resolve on their own within a few months. I think that's why my neuro

didn't prescribe the IV steroids. Unfortunately mine hasn't come back

in all this time. I think I could live with it (if the damage is

permanent) as long as I could get rid of my other symptoms (which vary

much more than the ON) and also stop any progression.

My first MS symptom (like many others) was optic neuritis in the left

eye last Oct. It got really bad, I had the central blind spot for a

couple weeks so literally could not see anything. It came back

gradually but the best is 20/50. Then, my right eye started going bad

a couple months ago (saga is in the archives, it all started with soy

cheese, ugh) but I think waging the war with acupuncture and fasting

helped keep it from getting as bad. Now the acuity is decent in that

eye (20/25) but still have problems with glare and bright light. Both

eyes still get worse anytime my core temp goes up, whether a shower,

exercise, summer heat, etc. I'm trying to be patient b/c I *know* the

damage is not permanent. When I have acupuncture sessions both eyes

are temporarily better, I just can't get the results to stick yet.

Obviously I have some problem with my chi or energy flow. ;) So

that's helping me stick this out, and I explain to people that it's

residual damage but not an active symptom. I sure hope it doesn't

take 2 years to come back but I'm just going to hang in there. I used

to take lecithin, maybe I'll add that back in to my supplements...
