Guest guest
Engender Health India Society (EHS) in collaboration with The Indian Network of Positives (HIV positive) and other partners is currently implementing an innovative project to strengthen capacity of both the public and private sectors to assist in adherence to HIV Treatment (ART). EHS will improve and expand quality training ensuring more effective referral linkages and follow –up. The proposed capacity building program will address the urgent need to improve the quality and accessibility of newly established care and support services in 6 high prevalence states in India, and in so doing, strengthen the foundation for the future introduction of HIV care and treatment services across India. Over a period of five years, the program aims to demonstrate the feasibility of an institutional strengthening approach for building the capacity of NGO sector providers in the private/NGO sector to provide quality care and support services for people on ART in resource poor settings. Major Outputs include: • 619 Trained service providers • 124 master trainers • 3 CETCs • 3 training curricula (600 copies) • 2 sets of job aids (1750 copies in 6 languages) The CETCs will serve as a model training centres for consortium efforts to train and support public, private and NGO sector providers. The project is expected to result in substantially increased access for People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHAs) to quality ART support and care services in 6 high prevalence states. The project goal is to increase the number of NGO sector providers capable of delivering high quality care and support services in accordance with the national treatment guidelines through improving the capacity of existing Indian health care training institutions to provide training and follow-up support to service providers in quality care and support services for PLHAs on ARVs. The objectives will contribute to the overall achievement of the GFTAM project goals and expected outcomes from the consortium by improving coverage of services for care and support in high prevalence states and districts through an expanded cadre of master trainers and trained health care providers, counselors and peer educators. EHS project will train approximately 319 NGO sector service providers across the service delivery sites in the first two years of the project. In addition, EHS will train staff of 100 community based organisations to provide home and community based care during the first two years of the project. Engender Health India Society, working in partnership with a consortium of partners, the NGO Consortium (Population Foundation of India, the Indian Network of Positive People (INP plus), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Freedom Foundation (FF), will assist India's National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), State AIDS Control Societies (SACs) to develop and implement an integrated program of training and institutional capacity building.
