Guest guest Posted November 29, 2005 Report Share Posted November 29, 2005 A Tribute to a Remarkable Journey On World AIDS Day 2004, Project Concern International/India launched an unprecedented year-long AIDS Walk for Life around India to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS in this country where over 5.1 million are now infected with the virus. On World AIDS Day 2005 (December 1st), the 30-plus intrepid walkers will complete their remarkable journey, returning to New Delhi where they began, having walked 6,800 kilometers through 13 states of India and spreading the word about HIV/AIDS through educational leaflets, street theater, videos and direct counseling. Over 10,000 participants, film personalities and national leaders – including Smt. Gandhi -- will welcome the walkers and support team members back to Delhi and pay tribute to their extraordinary achievement at Indira Gandhi Stadium on 1st December 2005. This is a joint venture of PCI/India and the National AIDS Control Organization of India. Pre-registration is required for those interested in attending the program at the Indira Gandhi Stadium.
