Guest guest Posted November 29, 2005 Report Share Posted November 29, 2005 Media Advisory Release of `Missing the Target – A Report on HIV/AIDS Treatment Access in India' World Health Organization (WHO) set a target for India to provide Antiretroviral therapy (ART) to 355000 people living with HIV by the end of 2005. This is part of the global target set by WHO to provide ART to 3 million people by the end of 2005, popularly known as `3 by 5 initiative'. In India, so far only about 15000 people living with HIV are provided ART through the government ART centers. Thus, in the wake of the failure of the WHO 3 by 5 HIV treatment initiative to meet its target in India, Indian Network for People living with HIV/AIDS (INP+) in collaboration with FXB-International is organizing a press meeting for the release of Missing the Target – A Report on HIV/AIDS Treatment Access in India.** (**Note: This report forms the India chapter in the international report on ARV access in selected developing countries titled " Missing the Target - A Report on HIV/AIDS Treatment Access from the front-lines " .
