Release of `Missing the Target – A Report on HIV/AIDS Treatment

Access in India'

World Health Organization (WHO) set a target for India to provide

Antiretroviral therapy (ART) to 355000 people living with HIV by the

end of 2005. This is part of the global target set by WHO to provide

ART to 3 million people by the end of 2005, popularly known as `3 by

5 initiative'. In India, so far only about 15000 people living with

HIV are provided ART through the government ART centers.

Thus, in the wake of the failure of the WHO 3 by 5 HIV treatment

initiative to meet its target in India, Indian Network for People

living with HIV/AIDS (INP+) in collaboration with FXB-International

is organizing a press meeting for the release of Missing the Target –

A Report on HIV/AIDS Treatment Access in India.**
