Miss Universe to visit Kochi on AIDS awareness drive

'Miss Universe 2005' Glebova will be on a two-day visit to

Kochi from November 21, during which she will take part in several

programmes to spread awareness on AIDS.

Addressing a press conference here today, the organisers of the

programmes said Ms Glebova would take part in a one km walk in which

children drawn from about 100 city schools will also participate.

She will also participate in a two km AIDS awareness run in which

several other celebrities are also expected to join in.

An entertainment show is also being planned in which Miss Universe

will participate. The show will be inaugurated by renowned singer K

J Yesudas.

The AIDS awareness programmes are being organised by IG

International, a fashion design house based in New York. Among those

who addressed the press conference here were Mr D D Ingty,

Commissioner of Customs, film actor Janardhanan, and secretary of

the Cochin Gymkhana Club Mohan Vettath.

Meanwhile, the International Network of Positive People announed

here today that a group of HIV positive and AIDS patients would take

out a march from Kochi to Thiruvananthapuram next week.

The march would be flagged off here on November 15 by noted jurist V

K Krishna Iyer and conclude on the World AIDS Day on December one at

Thiruvananthapuram. Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is expected

to take part in the valedictory function in the state capital, a

spokesman for the Network said at a press conference.
