A DMPS protocol and other thoughts on heavy metal chelation

Hi all,

As I've noted in recent emails, I am planning on giving oral DMSA a

try, after I do a pre and post-provocation urinalysis to dertermine

heavy metals and mineral levels. I know I have at least some mercury

in my system, as I had amalgams and many vaccinations. I keep

procrastinating on doing these urine tests, for a variety of reasons,

but will do them soon.

Anyway, in the meantime, I recalled that two well-respected holistic

dentists in my state both told me that they believed the " Mercout "

program is the best protocol for removing mercury. The website for

this protocol is www.mercout.com.

When I looked up the website recently, I saw that the chelating agent

used for this protocol is oral DMPS, along with a vitamin/mineral

supplement that comes with the protocol.

DMPS was something I had decided against previously, as my sense was

that overall people consider DMSA safer than DMPS. However, as I read

this website, the physician (Dr. Bruce Dooley) who has made this

protocol, makes some compelling claims about his protocol, including

that the detox reactions are minimal to none and that the average

person signficantly detoxes mercury within 30-60 days on the program,

as measured through provoked urine challenge tests from DDI, that the

Mercout company arranges at the beginnng (to determine if the person

is excreting high levels of mercury) and then once per month (if the

person starts the protocol). There are a few success stories listed

on the website, but other than that, I couldn't find anything on the

web (either positive or negative) about this particular protocol. I

only have the recommendations of the two dentists to go by.

On the other side, there is the dmps backfire website, warning

against the use of DMPS.

Anyway, I am a little interested in this Mercout program, but I think

I am going to stick with my original plan of starting with the DMSA.

However, if I find I cannot tolerate the DMSA well or that I don't

think I am chelating, I may try the Mercout/DMPS.

Well anyway, just thought I'd share this website if anyone is

interested in checking it out. www.mercout.com

Also, if anyone cares to share their experience with DMPS, DMSA, or

any other chelating agent, I would be quite interested.

Thanks,
