<< She says Actonel seems

better than the similar Fosamax in terms of not upsetting the stomach.

That seems to have been true for a friend who switched to Actonel because of

stomach upsets and things have been ok. I've been on Fosamax for two years

with no stomach problems, so I guess (once again!) the response to meds is

very individual.

I have been on hormones for 40 years, birth controI and then for menopause.

I began tapering off my HRT and after several days gave up and went back on

it. I have never felt so bad in my life-- my Afib symptoms pale in

comparison ;) I have decided that for me the risk of 8 extra cases of

heart disease in 1000 is warranted given what kind of life I'd have while

trying to " withdraw " from Prempro. For the first time I think I have some

sense of what drug addicts must go through when in withdrawal, and it ain't a

pretty sight! In any case, I won't be adding to the mayhem of the 10 million!

Trudy thanks for the information. Are you stopping the hrt cold turkey? I

am in the same boat as you are, having been on hrt for ~ten years. I must

admit I feel rather angry, thinking that it was going to help my heart et al

which " information " was crucial in deciding to go that route, and now

learning that it could hurt instead.

<< P.S Did you have any heart symptoms when you began tapering off it?

>>

I didn't go into Afib but I felt so bad everywhere else that heart problems

would have just been one more thing! If everyone has the kind of

withdrawal symptoms I had and they stick with the withdrawal, there are going

to be a lot of unhappy people in addition to the " withdrawees " !

Brenta, I am really glad to have the benefit of your experience. Thank you

so much for posting the message. Sandy

Hi, Sandy,

Yes, I did stop cold turkey. I had some hot flashes and was even

more irritable than usual :-) for a week or so, but now things seem

back to normal. I was taking Estrace and Prometrium. Your mileage

may differ...

I also feel quite angry. I've been taking this darn stuff for about

ten years myself, thinking I was helping my health, only to find that

I was probably damaging it.

After I heard last week that now they think anti-oxidants may not

actually be beneficial, I decided that from now on I was going to eat

anything I d**n well pleased :-)

What did you hear that said that antioxidants may not be beneficial? Did it

mean taking antioxidents in tablet form, or from fresh fruit and veg?

Thanks

I don't recollect - it was on the news someplace. They didn't

mention pills vs. actually food.
