Guest guest
Kym, Thanks for your detailed, yet concise update of your experiences. I was very interested in your experience with testing both urine and stool metals at the same time on phase 2. I have always wondered why the protocol calls for stool testing only on phase 2, if DMSA excretes via the kidney, and ALA via the bowel. I assume this is just for reasons of cost and efficiency, as I would expect there would be output in both places. Interesting though that in your case it was higher in the urine. Has anyone else done this experiment, or have any comments? >1/13/02 - Stage 2, cycle 21st > > Urine element (Day 3): > Mercury 4.3 ( yellow zone / ref. <3)- I finally got a little >smile > Arsenic 60 ( green zone / ref. <100) > Aluminum - <dl > > Fecal elements ( Day 3) > Mercury 0.022 (green) not much increase compare to 3m ago. > Arsenic 0.57 (yellow) slightly increase compare to 3m ago. Guest guest
Dear friends, Sorry for the cross posting. I just love my friends from both groups. My son has been on Chelation for about a year now and I would like to do an up-date on him. I will first give a background, than a timeline of the chelation, follow by the progress I feel about him. Besides from sharing the progress, I would like to get some input if anyone is so kind to share your insight with me. My son in now 5.5 years old. He is attending a reg. kindergarten with part-time shadowing by a therapist. He has a great teacher who is very willing to work with him. He is verbal and has some good academic skills. However, he is still very into his own world lots of time and is still very hard for him to interact verbally effectively. We started our food restriction and chelation at the same time through a local immunologist who is nice enough to give me everything I requested. He has some knowledge of Dr. Holmes' protocols but I don't think he studies chelation in depth. Timeline: 1/23/2001 - Hair elements/ Great Smokies Mercury - 3.23 / Aluminum - 13 / Arsenic - 0.13 2/15/2001 - IgG - 36 foods High with egg white, milk, egg yolk plus a slight mold issue 2/23/2001 - Started stage 1 with DMSA 30mg ( 1mg/kg each dose) every 4 hours cycles. Started diet restrictions and Creon 10. 5/28/2001 - Stage 1, cycle 10th Urine elements (random) from DDI: Almost everything within normal range. Only some elevations like nickel and Arsenic (normal or close to normal) No aluminum seen Mercury - 1 (ref. 1-3) 6/1/2001 - Last round of stage 1. Total of 11 cycles over 4 months time. 6/15/2001 - Started stage 2 with DMSA 30mg and ALA 15 mg every 3 hours. 7/29/2001 - 5 months into chelation. Hair elements from DDI: level of toxic metals has dropped greatly. Mercury 1.0 (yellow zone /ref. < 0.4) Arsenic 0.12 (yellow zone / ref. < 0.08) Aluminum 5.5 (green zone / ref. < 8) 10/15/2001 - Stage 2 / cycle 13th Fecal metals (Day 4): Mercury 0.02 (green / ref. < 0.05) Arsenic 0.42 (slightly into the yellow zone / ref. < 0.3) 10/31/01 - Repeated IgG - the same 36 foods All negatives except for 2+ for egg white. The doctor said the egg white was probably from the storage of a few months ago. He said we could just give Creon 10 when having a bigger meal. 12/31/2001 - 6 months into stage 2 We did the hair tests from both DDI and Great Smokies just to compare. Hair elements / DDI Mercury 0.67 (green zone) Arsenic 0.071 (green zone) Aluminum 2.9 ( green zone) Hair elements / Great Smokies Mercury 0.58 Arsenic 0.066 Aluminum 2.4 I had been wondering if the pre-chelation hair elements with mercury at 3.25 was done accurately by Great Smokies. That's why I sent to both labs on 12/31/2001. It turned out that both results matched quite well. I was hoping to see more mercury in the subsequent hair tests during chelation, but it doesn't happen this way for my son. You know, people have suggested hair tests every 4-6 months during chelation if stool is hard to collect, right? Since I did not get much mercury from both urine elements (5/28/01) and fecal elements (10/15/01) I ran both tests in Jan/02. My son's stool transition time is < 24 hours and I didn't catch any thing significant back in October when we did it on Day 4. That's why I did it on Day 3 the second time. 1/13/02 - Stage 2, cycle 21st Urine element (Day 3): Mercury 4.3 ( yellow zone / ref. <3)- I finally got a little smile Arsenic 60 ( green zone / ref. <100) Aluminum - <dl Fecal elements ( Day 3) Mercury 0.022 (green) not much increase compare to 3m ago. Arsenic 0.57 (yellow) slightly increase compare to 3m ago. There's not much different in both fecal elements we have run for the mercury level so far. However, I got some mercury from urine during stage 2. Arsenic is the only one that was excreting a bit more in the 2nd fecal test. Does it mean he doesn't excrete mercury through his bowel? If he had diminished bile flow, would it interferes with ALA bring mercury down the bowel? Or, does it mean the arsenic has to come out first before mercury? I know about pressure treated wood and arsenic. Does wooden furniture or wooden board from places like Home Depot contains arsenic too? My feeling about my son's progress: I see him having constant improvement but I don't feel he is making remarkable process. Of course, like many of our kids, there have been really bad days and really amazing days for us. The process in stage 2 has been just really slow comparing to stage 1 while we were learning to bring his IgG down. We will be seeing Dr. Aguilar on 3/1, same date as Joanna Pau's family. Our first appt. with Dr. Holmes will be end of July. Recently, I keep thinking about if his slow in progress is related to gut bugs. I have the kits with me for gut bugs but just feel kind of scare to find out. I don't know how accurate they are and they do cost a lot of money to run. I am thinking about running it 2 months before Dr. Holmes appointment. At the same time I feel that it may be better for my son if I choose to find out sooner. He does make better verbal exchanges when he wants to talk. At the same time it's even harder than before to get his attention when he is enjoying so much of his own things/interests. His sleeping and bowel habits have been of no change. Stimming is up and down. I also did a ATEC. As I said, he is doing something like he never did before. However, I scored him 25 on 5/18/01 but 31 on 1/14/02 ( you know, the lower the number the better). I wonder if I had scored him too loosely back then on 5/18/01 and too harsh on 1/14/02. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Kym
Guest guest
Kym, I have also been chelating my 5 yr old for a year. Same type of feeling. Constant improvement but no miracles. My sons langauge is very limited due to apraxia. His chelation always bring motor planning improvement so I believe he is mercury blocked there. Gut bugs are also an issue here. I recently stopped juice, just water and his stools look great and he is more focused. As far as desire to interact, I have seen the most improvement in that department when dealing w/ viruses. My son is on acyclovir 4xs a day. This made his start gestural communication again. I recently started monolaurin and the desire to be around other children improved even more. He now cries when people leave the house. The monolaurin also kills yeast. He had some die-off in the beginning. I hope this information helps. I waited a while before I tried each drug and I wish I had not. Regards, nne > Dear friends, > > Sorry for the cross posting.
